ok so my HD 4870 is supposed to be here tomorrow so I thought I'd be pro-active and move my HD 2900pro over to my wifes pc (opty 175, a8n sli deluxe, 600w psu, 2gb ram) and when it boots up it will show bios and even the windows xp loading screen and I hear windows startup but I get no video after the windows load screen. I tried booting in safe mode but that didn't help, tried a different monitor. Now I haven't tested this PSU yet because it is also new to that system, maybe thats the prob? Also I realized that I didn't uninstall my old nvidia drivers for the card that was in there previously but I thought that wouldn't make a difference for the safe mode boot. Moved the card back to my rig and it works fine. Ideas? Thanks!
__________________UPDATE: put a nvidia 7300gs in there and windows came up fine, unintalled drivers then rebooted into safe mode and ran driver clean pro. Turned off pc and installed the hd 2900 and sure enough it didn't fix the problem, same thing. Update 2: WOW! I had Plug and Play DISABLED in bios.....now why did I do that??? Working now

Could you try a linux livecd to see if that would work? There are ubuntu ones out there that might be good for this. Just burn the livecd to a CD, pop it in the cd drive, then boot the system with the 2900. Make sure the cd drive is set to be the first boot device. That would tell you if it was a driver problem, or maybe a psu problem. If it boots with the livecd, which it should, then the problem probably lies somewhere in the drivers.

Always clear old video drivers when installing a new video card. Even if it is a Nvidia/ATI swap-out.

thanks for the idea on the linux live idea, I might have to try that. Heh, and I know I should have uninstalled the nvidia first but I was in a hurry and forgot because I was pulling the card out to sell it to a guy on craigslist, which means I don't have an nvidia card to put in and try to uninstall the drivers.

Driver Cleaner Pro is in the Downloads section.
Load DCPro Remove drivers in Windows Boot to Safe Mode and run DCPro Reboot and load new drivers
