Default Is this RMA replacement offer a good deal ?

So I sent in one of my misbehaving 2900xt's in to Sapphire for RMA, and they are offering me a Toxic 3870 as a replacement.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=toxic%203870

From some research I've done I think this card matches up with my 2900xt quite well but I run a crossfire setup and I'm not about to get rid of the other 2900 just to use the 3870. I also don't like that the 3870 cooler dumps hot air into the case as opposed to out the back.

I've spent quite a bit on full cover water blocks for my 2900's as well, not to mention the time spent getting it all to run smoothly. I don't have the cash for any major upgrades right now (although I'd love a 4780 x2 ) and I'm thinking I may wait for the 5000 series to come out next year.

Any advice about how I should respond to Sapphire is welcome! Should I try to get a better upgrade out of them ? Could they possibly repair my broken 2900 ?

Why not ask them to replace both of the cards? My friend had a similar situation with Evga. He had dual 7900's running sli. They gave him a 7950 as a replacement. He talked to them about not being able to run sli anymore and they replaced the second card as well.

I'm not sure how well ATi's warranty support is but it's worth a shot.

I should have mentioned that the other card is made by Visiontek, so I don't think they'll be too happy about that.

Ask em anyway? They could always take even the visiontek and sell it themselves if they needed too just to keep a good customer. That would be excelent customer service.

Give them a call or email them with your situation and the specifics. If they care about customer service at all, they should at least attempt to come up with a solution to your predicament.

Yeah you should definitely contact them. Just complain and they will definitely come up with a more convenient solution. You invested a lot in those 2900XTs and one 3870 is not worth it.

Well I sent them an e-mail asking if it's at all possible to repair or replace the 2900, since this is my preference.

As an alternative I requested a single card which matches both of my 2900s in crossfire mode.

Well the latest is that they're having problems finding a 2900xt. They said they'd keep trying to get one for me so I guess its a bit of a waiting game at this point. You wouldn't expect these cards would be so hard to find given that they've only been out for just over a year.

I think it's a discontinued product.
