Default 1680 x 1050 4850 or 4870?

Hey my brother will be getting a new video card and he runs at 1680 x 1050. Is the 4870 worth the extra 100 bucks at that resolution? Thanks.

The 4870 is probably not worth the extra $$$. What games does he play and does he max AA/AF on them?

My 4850 runs crysis very high at 1680x1050, so i'd go for that if you want to save the money. Course, it's also volt modded.

What i would do is grab a 4850 then... wait a sec, can u crossifre the 4850 and 4870 like with the 3850 and 3870? I think u can but i dont want to give u false info. but if u can i would get a 4850 and if u need more power u can either grab another one or a 4870 down the road when more advanced games come out. and yea the 4850 will cover every game at high 4xaa 1680x1050 except for crysis obviously.

Edit: Yeah u can crossfire em both together. Heres a forum that might aid ur decision.

Wow i just read through that testing and in crysis at 1920x1080 the 4870 crossfire, 4870+4850, and 4850 crossfire waste everything. Even the gtx 280 1gb. they all averaged over 44 fps and thats all high. Im very impressed.

I was at the same crossroads, OP.

I play on a 1680x1050 monitor as well. I decided that a 4870 would be better, because it will play anything that you throw at it at that resolution, not to mention it will be more futureproof.

Once the 4870 is maxed out, I'll just get another.

So, I would definitely get the 4870. I decided that even after tossing the idea around about 2 4850's.

Hope this helps.
