I would recommend installing the SP1 update, then trying again.

Then try the CCC and drivers again.

Ok I have installed SP1 for Vista, and made sure DX was up to date. I uninstalled the drivers and CCC and reinstalled the newest 8.9 drivers w/CCC and I still get a BSOD at every boot.

This time I disabled the start up of CCC in msconfig while in safe mode and the BSOD goes away. As soon as I open up CCC manually I get the BSOD.

Also just to add some more information it look likes CCC may not be my only problem. I just had a blue screen while playing Mass Effect, that one was a DX file. It was about 15 mins into playing the game.

Although I have played EQ2 for about 5 hours with no problems.

I am going to run some benchmarks to check stability and performance. I will post the results when I am finished.

Seems to be running 3DMark05 just fine. Score 19843 with out being able to change any settings in CCC.

So I need a alternative for CCC to mess with AA and AF options. I was very interested in the AA options for the 4870.
You should download Service Pack 1 ASAP. CCC is probably not running well because of NETFRAME, which is something that vista comes prepackaged with but requires a few updates. I would be willing to bet that is the problem in some way. SP1 is going to give your system better stability and considerably better performance all around. I would download service pack 1 64bit and then run all your windows updates then try again.

Here is the link for 64 bit SP1: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Here is an exhaustive guide on the CCC software: http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html

Hope this helps, and BTW...Welcome to OC!

Do you have the MS .net framework 2.0 or above installed on your computer? CCC will NOT run without it...I ran into it last night and it wouldnt let CCC open and would give me all kinds of errors.

I am fairly sure but I will double check. I was running the 8.9 Drivers with CCC just fine when I had my X1950XTX in there. I just upgraded to the HD4870 1GB

Thats not proper support yano guys..

I'd be seriously dissapointed if I had to mess around with third party stuff just to get to my driver settings.

Mind you there isnt alot of 64bit support anywhere for anything tbh.

"New to Overclock.net"

third party software is made by people like us to make our systems run faster and more efficiently. that's what overclocking entails. and by the way, ATI doesn't make the coolers for their cards, the manufacturers choose their own cooling. if it were ATI's choice they would all have phase change as the stock cooler.. that's just how good their cards are lol

I would love to use ATi Tray Tools much rather then CCC, but I can't seem to get it to work with VistaX64. When I was running XP I definitely preferred ATi Tray Tools to CCC.
