or two 120mm fans!

mine work great on my 9800gtx, which i assume puts out as much heat (or more) that a 4850.

The absolute best would probably be a thermalright HR-03, but they are alot more expensive.
Man you oc your card,of course if you overclock the core to 700 mhz,it will run much hotter,i was talking at stock clocks.
At stock clocks with my fan at 45% won´t go hotter than 60ºC full load.
If he wants to oc as much as you did,he should get a new cooler just for that, because with the fan at 80% it won´t last much and it´ll be to noisy.
But if you keep it stock, there is no need.

T-Rad² wins.

http://en.expreview.com/2008/09/09/r...olers-roundup/

Best value would probably go to the Accelero though.

Nope, mate this was at bone cold stock. 87*C in ATITool, 95*C in GRID at 625/993. When I took off the cooler, the thermal paste was all dried up and lumpy...probably could've shaved 10*C off by replacing it with AS5.
I've only overclocked now I have an accelero.

Well it might have been your card,my card has no issues,i just oc at 680 mhz core and 1030 memory and when fan was at 60% it only went to 65ºC.
That could also be because of my good cooling inside my case, but i don´t know i have no heat issues.

Yeah, you do have alot of room in that case for airflow, mines just a mid-tower. I even put an 80mm fan in the PCI slots, but that only shaved off a couple of degrees. I think you got lucky with the thermal paste, the application on mine was pretty botched.

and i did see that heatsink on thermalright's website, but it said it was only a preview and it didn't have any partners listed where you could buy the item. weird.

edit: one thing i really like about arctic cooling's vga cooler is that it uses copper heatpipes and a copper base, with aluminum fins. thermalright is all copper.

aluminum fins reduce weight allowing them to add more fins too
