(cut-n-paste from my build log)

The problem:

The image below shows the backside of the GPU. There is are five (insert correct terminolgy here) glowy thingies, that flicker on, then shut off on the card that works.

On the card that does not work, the outside 2 remain illuminated and there is a constant "ticking" noise (kinda like a GPU under load).

Arrows point to the referenced parts:


Notes:

• The card does not work by itself.
• There was a hang-up/re-start on "VGA BIOS" at one point during POST
• GPU is not recognised by the OS
• GPU is not recognised by CCC
• I did not drop it, or expose it to ESD (that I am aware)

I have re-set the CMOS (Rampage Formula 0408), but using the push-button, not the jumper... shouldn't make a difference which way it is done... should it?

Could I have somehow borked the BIOS on the GPU?

How can I go about troubleshooting more?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

So you've modified the bios, correct?

If so, flash back to the original bios.

Greetings, Grunion.

I was hoping that you would see this.

The BIOS has not been re-flashed.

This GPU worked for weeks on air, but only failed once I put the block on.

I have since re-seated the block to no avail.

coffeejunky was kind enough to point me to a help-thread (AMD) that states it may be a power or temperature issue, but it is inconclusive as the information provided is for the 4870, and "4870 x2" states, "Have not managed to locate them" (refering to led-status).

Those are surface mount LED's.

They are startup check indicators, and when any of them stay on it means something went poof.

Bricked bios, happened to me.
User error, long story.

So if the problem card is the secondary card, it's not recognized, or is it seen as VGA adapter?

Card #1 = Good
Card #2 = Bad

I used both cards in both slots, individually and on their own: 6 combinations.

When #1 is in the primary PCI-E slot, and #2 is in the secondary PCI-E slot, the OS (Vista 64) does not recognise the 2nd card.

When #2 is in the primary PCI-E or secondary PCI-E slot, I get not signal

When #1 is in the secondary PCI-E slot and #2 is in the primary PCI-E slot I get signal from #1, but not #2


.... uh... that sounds like one of those damndable Algebra word-questions.... how I detest Algebra.

What I want to know, both cards installed(#2 second slot), no bridge.
What does device manager show?

Also, will card #2 display in safemode?
