yup. less rails is always better, providing they have a lot of amps on the rail(s).

Dude, you have no reason to get a PSU that big. Even if you had two 4870x2s you'd only be running 750W full load.

A 500W PSU would work just fine for you, though probably near its limit. So for some headroom, get 600W.

This Corsair 650W costs $80 AR, which is even cheaper than the one you picked up and will do the job just fine.

Yeah, I think I said earlier that he should only need 800-900W, with 1000W giving him lots of headroom. If the OP wants to save some money, I'd either get the Corsair 750W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006), or the PC&P Silencer Quad (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703019).

I disagree. Utilizing anything near 80% of a PSUs capacity for any extended amount of time it quite ignorant, especially if you're going to overclock. Using a simple PSU calculator you'd see that if the system is running at only 85% and drawing that much from a PSU, this setup would utilize about 505w (unbeknown of what water cooling kit is used), which means even a 750w PSU probably wouldn't be the best decision.

seems within your budget and is a high quality with ONE rail with 66 amps

Actually no. There we some tests done (don't as me where, I forgot, ask DuckieHo) that showed that multi rails weren't worse (or better) than single rail PSUs.

Simple PSU calculators are very inaccurate. All it is is a bunch of arbitrary numbers added together. I mean, if you really believe you need 40W per hard drive, 150W for a motherboard, you are very mistaken.

This is a power consumption chart of a system with a QX9650, x38 board, 4GB DDR2, and one 7200RPM hard drive. Source.

As you can see, with a single 4870x2 the computer uses just under 450W at full load. With two it uses 750W. And this is measured at the wall socket, so its also including the inefficiency of the PSU. Assuming its running at 80% efficiency, that would mean that it really only needs just over 400W, with the rest being wasted as heat.

So like I said, with a single 4870x2 even 500W would power it, but you'd need a 600W PSU to keep it running under 75% load, and therefore remain safe.
