Default ATI 3870 or 4670

This: Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102752

Or

This: Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102792

Which one should I get, if they are around the same price in Canada

I am thinking of XFire when some high end 3870 becomes cheap, it seems that 4670 can't XFire with the 48xx.

Thanks
Brian

Just find a pair of inexpensive 3870's but the DDR4 version, they are still great cards, but don't plan on AA, etc with them - ATI didn't figure all that out until the 4000 series cards.

Personally I don't think ATI cards need AA/AF - I've never noticed a difference in picture quality.

He is saying to get the DDR4 version. There are cheaper GDDR3 cards out there that dont perform as well as the GDDR4.

hd 3870 is your best buy. It has the 256 bit bus wich packs more speed then the 128 bit bus. But if you can save up a little go for the 4850 or the 4870, those cards are way better then the 3870.

I wouldn't say they are way better, but they are nicer cards. My 3870 crossfire(2x3870@855/1230) on a highly overclocked E7200@4.2 is putting up higher 3dmark06 scores than my highly overclocked 4870 and Q9450@3.8.

18,400 vs 17,800.

EDIT: Just so you know, the only thing that benchmark really told me is that I need to buy another 4870 for dual crossfire systems.

The 256 bit bus is superiour to the 128 bit bus, this will be noticable especially with cards that have a lower clockrate. Though 2 cards in crossfire will pack alot of punch for sure.
The latest Ati architecture from the 36** to the 48** are all pretty powerfull.
@rpm66 nice results on that crossfire setup btw.

@ rpm, when it comes to 2 to 1 comparison, I think that price and the "only 1 card" factor needed to be highly factored in. I don't know what model was your 3870 and 4870.
I don't know if you are saying that the 3870x2 or the 4870 is the better buy/setup.

Edit: Gah, you just posted some screenies

lol sorry - Head to head the 4870 is much better than the 3870. Although, if you could get 2 3870's for around $165 (Which I know is possible because I did it last week) then that would be a better deal than one 4870($225-$300).

If you can find a 3870X2 for $200 or less, that is probably the best overall deal in my honest opinion.
