Default ATi Radeon 4870 Questions and Info

Part of my build, posted here - New [Q9550/4870/X48] Build
I know some of this may have been answered previously in other threads, but I would like one place to gather all info for my build. Thanks.

ATi Radeon 4870 1GB
- Best 4870 1GB card on the market? Any suggestions?
- Should I even go for the 1GB version? I may be using two monitors in the future and wouldn't want major slowdown from running a few intense programs across two screens.
- Best cooling options for overclocking.
- Best tools to use for overclocking.
- Anything else I should cover?

+REP will be given for any help!

Personally I would stick with the 512MB HD4870. Right now I don't think the extra money is worth it for the 1GB. Especially since the price on the 512's has come down so much recently. You can get a 4870 for $199.99 after MIR @ newegg with free shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125225

The best cooling solution is going to be watercooling. But thats gonna be pretty spendy and for what it would cost to get a decent watercooling setup you may as well spend the extra $ and get a 4870x2 instead. If it were me I would probably just stick with the stock cooler on the card.

I used the ATI catalyst control center to overclock mine. I believe Riva Tuner is pretty popular as well.

Yea, Stick with the 512mb the 1gb isn't really worth it unless you running on huge resolutions. And like sdfreitag86 said the prices are really low on the 4870. The best cooling options is go with a after-market cooler for the 4870. If you don't want to spend the extra money on the after market cooler then go with like the Palit or Visiontek they have a new reference design going on with two fans and they say its cooler than the stock fan.

Palit Design:

For aftermarket cooling I suggest the Thermalright HR-03 GT. There is a review on it @ http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-21.html

They say the cooler cuts the temps to pretty much half.

Yeah, I agree get the 4870 512m!

I couldn't justify a $50 difference for the 1gb version, so I got this one:
