Default Radeon 4830 specs changed

Quote:
Gitex 2008: Was not fast enough

Either ATI wanted to deceive Nvidia or it simply decided to change the specification of the card that they use to call RV770LE.

The card was supposed to have a 192-bit memory interface but the one that will be launched as Radeon HD 4830 later this week will have 256-bit interface. The shader clock is up from planned 480 to 640MHz, while the core clock should remain at planned 575MHz.

The key point is that ATI wants to beat Nvidia in every single market segment and at the same time Nvidia probably plans some of the price cuts at the same time. ATI likes the position it is currently in, and it wants to ride the wave as much as it can, as the sales is up to roof and the demand is still there.

We are not sure about HD 4830 pricing, but with HD 4850 at 130 euro or less the 4830 will have to be close to €100 which might offer great value for money.

I might get one of these. I'm seriously considering a new card something later this year or sometime early next year

I don't recall hearing anything even vaguely official about 480SPs and a 192-bit interface. 256-bit and 680SP is the only really decent news I've heard on these cards.

And this might be a good upgrade for me - something quick to tide me over for a more major upgrade sometime next year.

Shader clock=core clock. What are they smoking?

Wut? This is sum 770 core right? How's it they managed to unlink the shader clocks although they are identical to the core in the rest of the 770 GPUs?

Fudzilla probably meant the number of shaders, at least that's what I'm guessing given the numbers they gave.
