Default XFire 4870+4850 ??

Guys,

As you can see I currently have a single 4850 in my setup which is a great little card, I have been throwing the idea back 'n' forth about getting another 4850 but I noticed Bitemarks and bloodstains is selling a 4870 which I have put my name down for, pending the release of Far Cry 2 (UK Release).

Would it be worth while running Xfire 4870+4850 or just sell the 4850 and buy the 4870 and if I was to decide upon Xfire would I need a PSU upgrade?

What other possibilities should I look at?

I would agree you may need to look into a better PS.. I had PS issues when I went CF with an Ultra 750W & 2 4870s. You may also want to do a search on the cards and see if there will be any issues with the ram speed differance.

good luck

lol...

we are in a very similar situation, and i was about to buy the same 4870 from him... I would not do it though and just get a Palit 4850 or a Sapphire Dual Slot 4850 for just over 100 pounds depending on make. Furthermore, as you can see, the 4850/4870 in Crossfire performs pretty much like 2 4850's in Crysis DX10 and that trend is carried on through most games.

And yeah, you'll prolly need a new PSU... I'm going to be getting a Corsair TX750 or something when i get another mobo and card for crossfire.

Depends on how you cf it. If you do split frame rendering (uneven) it should work like a 4870+4850 cf. I dont have much experiance though, and dont know how accurate the uneven rendering is.
