4850x2 Owners Thread

Didn't see a thread of these yet, maybe noone has any?

got mine in the other day. could not believe how massive it is. But i havent seen any of the new gen cards up close so i hear its no bigger than the gtx's. It was original bought for a i7 rig but the board seems to have a dead southbrigde( thats in the intel mobo section), so it got put in a c2d 3G, 2G RAM, 550W, p965, rig. Just got dead space and started out on the same system with a 8800gt 512 which i thought was more than adequate to play these games. but with this card the difference is night and day. especailly once i turned on all the edge effect, aa, af and such through CCP. i just hope it doesnt fry this PSU. its a corsair 550.

i was about to pick one up but the cooling is ugly and i want the hot air blown outside of my case so im getting the 4870X2

Just got mine. Cannot get it to work with 8.12 drivers. Card is not even recognized. FiringSquad did a review with 8.12 drivers...I wonder how they got it to work...any ideas?

Hmm... can you install it with the driver CD ones?

I actually went to the Sapphire website and installed the 8.12 drivers for the 4850 X2. 3dMark06 ran fine, but OCing the GPU past a few increments makes the screens go crazy. I hope this is driver relted because it was a crappy OC.


Question: I know the 4850 X2 is not true, physical Crossfire. I noticed in CCC, Crossfire was ENABLED. Is it supposed to be like this...or do I need to disable it?

MrMan: how quiet is the card? I'm thinking about buying the exact same card (1GB version) but all reviews say its loud, someone on the hardforum.com said his is quiet @ 12% speed.

Also is 1GB enough for 1920x1200 gaming with high IQ settings? Should be right?

There is a hotfix out for the 4850's in crossfire for the 8.12's.

I would assume that seeing as the card is two 4850's with internal crossfire, the hotfix may be needed.

For those wondering about the fan...they're pretty loud...even at the lowest 20%. Think of putting a 4850 or 4870 fan speed on 50% or liek 66%. The temp idles at 41C and 44C.

Performance wise...score jumped 2000pts in 3dMark06 to 17292 on Q6600 3.2Ghz. Crysis Warhead runs ~30fps on max @ 1920x1080 8x AA

Where did this 12% speed come from???
