OK, I had to say this. I have owned my HIS Ice4 HD 4850 TurboX 512mb card for about 2 months now. As of tonight...I hate it.
__________________Yesterday, I noticed my temps went off. They used to be idle 37, peak 55-60. Today, they were 42 idle, 72 peak. This is with the fan set to 100%. I spent forever trying to tighten, and then undo the screws on the bracket in an attempt to reapply the thermal compound. I completely burred one of the screws so it was just a round hole. I finally managed to undo the other 3. They were really tight, and it wasn't me who did it. I finally found out I could undo the first 3, then spin the bracket around to undo the last one. This made me happy. Up until the point that I cleaned the base of the heatsink. I was cleaning the compound off with some alcohol, and I thought "that's funny, this stuff isn't coming off". That was when I found out it was off. The damn heatsink was made of aluminium, not copper. I had my doubts to begin with, but assumed it was copper plated. Nope. It wasn't even a copper plating. It was f**king paint. It left bright orange goop all over the thing. Copper coloured paint. I kid you not. I thought, okay, maybe they couldn't afford copper for everything, at least the heat pipes are copper. You know, copper heat pipes, they're basically a trademark. Guess what? Not copper either. Aluminium pipes, aluminium fins, aluminium everything except for the god damn paint, which I doubt even has copper in it. Probably a ferrous oxide. I applied the TIM that I had at the time (Antec Formula 5, it sucks) and I am planning on doing it again when I get my OCZ Freeze for my Vendetta 2. Unfortunately, I couldn't tighten it that well and one of the screws gives way a bit. I can't tighten it any further. I thought, oh well, I'll just get new screws. But guess what? Again? The springs on the screws are attached to the screws, so I can't take them off without damaging them. So now I have to find the exact screw, and buy some similar springs, and force the screws out and put them back in. With the orange goop all over the heatsink (and under the sticker...yeah, there is a big sticker underneath). Fortunately, I have shaved a couple of degrees with the crap TIM, but I noticed that when I hold the bracket firmly, I get an instant 3-5 degree drop in temps. This is just infuriating. I should have saved up for a GTX 260, or a HD 4870. Curse my desires for IceQ. Worst mistake of my life. I paid for copper, I got aluminium. I am never buying a HIS card again. And to think I was planning on selling it and buying a HIS 4870. Now I feel embarrassed even trying to sell this thing. I'm going to EVGA. At least they don't lie and pretend to use copper.

Does anyone even check this thread? I thought people would be surprised to hear that their "copper heatpipes" were made from aluminium.
__________________If you don't believe me, take a bottle of methylated spirits and a make-up sponge, and wipe at the "copper". See what happens. I will put up some pictures when I get my OCZ Freeze. It should be sent on about the 6th, but maybe the 9th (I'm waiting for another item to come in stock). So hopefully I'll have it by the 10th. Then I'll show you pictures of the heatsink base and the heatpipes. Although, the screws are so crappy that I may not be able to get it back off. Hopefully I can, because I need to get some new screws for it so I can tighten it properly. I am thinking about removing the springs under the screws, as it is essential to replace the screws. Is this a bad idea? The springs only seem to loosen the heatsink. I also had to use a cable tie to help fasten to heatsink to the graphics card.
