Default 4 HD4850s in crossfire vs 1 4870 x2?

I was thinking about buying 3 of these to add on to the one I already own for a new build. Buying 3 of those is cheaper than buying one HD4870 x2 so I was thinking of just doing 4 4850's in crossfire instead of getting the 4870x2.

How would it compare performance-wise?

EDIT: Actually, can my PSU handle that? O.o

well if the game supports crossfire it will be better than a single 4870X2.

If you have a really high quad core overclock, the quad xfire 4850 would perform better than the 2x 4870.

I would recommend getting a quad core before buying three more 4850s. Your cpu will be bottlenecking the graphic cards.

4870X2 is better. Less heat and power and probably better performance.

Quad-fire scales terribly. You're better off going for two 4870's or a 4870x2.

In any multi-GPU setup, the 3rd card only contributes 10-15% to the overall performance. Some games don't even support the 3rd one.
