this is a SS of my other desktop. the Sapphire 4830 in it can run 700/1050 easy on Ati Overdrive. I did have a problem with low 3dmark scores when I switched the cards but it was fixed when I did a uninstall of CCC with driver cleaner pro and reinstall of catalyst 8.12. which was weird but it seems to have fixed it. Do you guys think I should bios mod it for more speed without providing a better cooling solution on it? 70 celsius is a little steep for me and I don't really know how high these can go without memory and core failure. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hey guys. Finally got my wife's upgrade parts yesterday, Sapphire 4830 included. I glanced through the thread, some people seem to be getting very nice temps and others are not. I'm one of the others. Room ambient temp is 75F. On stock cooling, the card idles around 40-42C and when I run Furmark, it goes over 80C in just a couple minutes. It's starts to artifact at 82C.

I thought it was just a bad factory seat, so I pulled it apart, cleaned and applied IC Diamond (don't have any Ceramique on hand). It only lowered idle/load temps by about 2C. I know cards can handle a lot of heat, but thats a bit much for my liking. Also, it's only OC'd to 600/900.

Could my card be bad? The artifacts make me wonder...

I think it would also depend on what card you get. Some cards come with different coolers compared to the reference design. You probably got one with a reference cooler. Those temps are fine though and shouldn't be a problem.

You could always go to a thrift shop, pick up a really old case and strip it. My friend is currently using a stripped case to hold his rig.

70 is already a bit hot but im pretty sure these beasts can tolerate up to 85-90C. Try bios modding then if your temps get that high, it's up to you if you can justify the cost of an aftermarket cooler for the performance gain.

Just installed the Accelero S1 Rev2 on the 4830 with an additional 120mm Fan @ 1000rpm. Temps are just amazing at 46°C with Furmark 100% Load and 1.35 VGPu. Maybe i can hit 900MHz with 1.4V.
