Is an open box deal with Newegg for a 4870 worth it? How would I get around not having the disk that would normally come with the card? Just download drivers from site or what? What if motherboard does not have Integrated video. Am asking cause doing a new build & thinking of going this way. Advice suggestions. I have never ordered an open box before.

Yes they are usually just fine. sometimes you just get the card and sometimes you may get all the accessories that came with it. There return policy is very good!

Your card should be the default video adapter if the MOBO dosnt have integrated, and it will(should) work and boot up, but your rez will be limited until you install the necessary drivers.

Well first off never use the drivers that come with the video card. They are usually out of date.
A motherboard that has an IGP can't just be removed. Either way the manufacturer will state which chipset and IGP it has. If you are trying to save some cots then yeah it might be worth it depending if you aren't looking to RMA after 90 days or so.

It's worth it I've gotten several open box items off of newegg: video cards, motherboards etc... I've never had a problem with any of them. Sometimes you get all or most of the accessories other times you just get the oem bare product. Also yes you should be downloading the most recent drivers from the manufacturer's site anyway.

I picked up the P5Q Deluxe for my brother's upgrade for $99. I then went to the ASUS eStore and got the I/O shoeld for $10. So I saved about $80 on the board. http://estore.asus.com/shop/category.asp?catid=358 Open Box can be just as good as retail. But you do run a small risk of getting an inferior product if there is a minor flaw that was repaired.

dont get an openbox 4870 like that msi one.. for example shipping is probably like 10 dollars.. and tax if it applies.. you should get a sapphire or visiontek 4870 that is like 180 shipped or something since free shipping is better and yeah
