I have just realized that you have Windows XP 32bit OS. Are you sure that you are installing the right cat 9.2's for XP 32bit ?

If new hardware wizard is still poping up I would say open it. Click next and let it do, let it install/ what it wants to do or install and then see what happens. XP 32bit is an old OS. But this card is relatively new. I highly suspect that you are having this issue because of XP 32bit. Be sure to install all the latest updates for your OS via Windows update. If none of these work do you have a chance to give it a try with Vista ?
nah, I dont have vista. None of that worked for me . I made sure I had the right drivers as well. Tried uninstalling and installing some older drivers with no luck. Just doesnt want to work for some reason.

Man I hope you manage to solve the problem without having to re-install the OS. I just ordered a 4870 and my old card is a 8800GT. I don't want to be in the same situation, since re-installing an OS won't be an option for me.

it could also be a glitch in windows ..whenever I plug my bluetooth dongle or my flash drive in new hardware comes up.. formatting my pc took care of that... how long have you been using the pc without a re-format?

no offense to all you ati guys, the hd48xx series is impressive; as is the 4870x2 and all the other x2 cards, but this is exactly why I stay away from ATI.

I never have driver problems with nvidia.

I've purchased two cards from ati and it has always been a hassle getting drivers to work right. This is why I always flirt going to over to the "red tide" but in reality I know i'll be green forever

Just my two cents

No offense taken, to each his own experiences. I'm personally on ati cards 5 and 6 (since I have crossfire right now) and have never had a singular driver issue to speak of.

Go with what makes you happy.

the new hardware found is the audio chip on the card, you can install drivers for it or simply disable it from device manager if you don't need it like me.
mnake sure you have all the .NET updates since the CCC requires them to run properly.

It had been around a month because I had done a case/mobo swap. So it wasn't bloated or anything as I had a small amount of processes running at any given time. Had done regular adware checks and such. The reformat didnt alleviate any problems unfortunately. I tried googling and looking elsewhere because I wanted this to work since the performance was great. Unfortunately there were too many out of game issues occurring. I'll probably get a refund and buy a 260 or just wait for the new lineup from nvidia.

I really wanted to try ati, but for whatever reason it just didnt work . Hopefully its just my own incompetence that caused the problems, but after putting my 8800 back in everything worked fine.

PS--I updated the .net framework as well.
