Not worth it, sell the card.
Why have your awesome card downgraded to 4830 levels just to get Crossfire which isn't even supported in all games, and sometimes isn't very beneficial.

If it is only gonna work as well as 2x 4830, then you might as well sell the 4870 and buy a new 4830 because the 4870 will be going to waste! Just sell the 4830 and put that money towards another 4870, or just sell the 4830 and save the money. If you keep the 4830, the 4870 will be wasted because you may as well be using another 4830 in crossfire since it will only be running at that speed.

I hope that made sense.

Sorry, but your 4830 is not as a fast as a 4850. It only has 640 SPs compared to 800. It would take a massive clock speed increase to overcome that... One that you won't attain without heavy volt modding and possibly, LN2/DICE.

CF is different than SLI in that no card slows down, they just render their frame at their respective speeds.
You can run each card at whatever speed they can reach.

I CF'd a 4870/50 together results were not bad at all, results here.

Oh yeah

I'd sell the card, put the $ toward another 4870.
thanks for the benchies and cf info

well, i couldn't find a test there that has mixed crossfire.

i'm sure with xfired 4870s, it's possible to have different clock speeds and without the other getting to tune down.

but xfiring a 4870 and 4850 together is a different story. the main thing is the 4870 will tune down to ddr3 w/c is its advantage over the 4850(not to mention sp, and memory size in different models). so in the end, it's just like 2 4850s in xfire.

here's a sample
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-review-5.html

cheers

nVidia representative: PhysX, as seen in next-gen games like Batman:Arkham Asylum, PhysX makes your g200 based card BETTER than the 58XX series in all aspects. You'd be an idiot to buy ATI when you'd be forfeiting physX

Silly elev8r, sell the 4830 while you still can.

The way ATi and Nvidia are going at it, a 4870 will be like ~$130 pretty soon.
