4870 + 4830 xfire
ok so i have a sapphire 4830 that was going to be sent off for rma and i have a HIS 4870 512 on the way and when the 4830 got back i was going to crossfire them to see what performance increase i would get and possibly sell the 4830 if the results were less than spectacular
BUT today my cousin stopped to see us before he goes back to florida in the morning and he offered to buy the card for almost what i paid for it but the deal leaves tomorrow so i have looked quite a bit and havent really found any results on a 4870+4830 so does anyone know if the performance increase is worth hanging onto the 4830?

It will work. You could see an improvement over a standard 4870.

it's just the same as xfiring two 4830s. but it's still an improvement over a single 4870

yep. the logic for xfiring is, the higher specs tune down with the lower specs, and it's the lower ones that gets doubled.

The only thing that will scale down is memory size, only if you are mixing cards with different amounts. CF is different than SLI in that no card slows down, they just render their frame at their respective speeds. You can run each card at whatever speed they can reach. I CF'd a 4870/50 together results were not bad at all, results here. Oh yeah I'd sell the card, put the $ toward another 4870.
