Yeah I wondered about those HIS cards.. They kinda scare me LOL.

I just bought a Visiontek 4870 512. for 165usd shipped.

I wonder if i should have gotten 1g+ model instead.

BUT!! I hear crossfiring the 4870 w/4850 gives considerably faster benches, and the 4870 wont dumb down to the speed of a 4850 Like sli would.. So it also stand to reason that if you get a 4870 you can keep your 4830. Stay there a while. Then when Ati has another supper sweet card come out. You can sell both of those and move up to where you wanna. But kinda do a smart upgrade now. And save for the new tech later.

Thats what i would do. Did. lol Because i catch myself trying to max what i got all the time and then it turns out i spent enough to get the best and newest. LOL

So if I crossfire my 4830 with a 4870, the 4870 won't slow down?

it's basically like xfiring two 4830s. don't worry it's still 20% faster than a single 4870.

Supposedly the 4870 is going to get a really nice price drop. If it is big enough I might go crossfire.

Looking at this article, which shows that CFX scales better than a pair of the lower end card, I'd expect it to be closer to 4850 CFX speed with a 4870/4830 combo: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...ce-review.html

No... HIS drivers suck but the cards themselves are solid.... I've owned 5 different HIS cards with no problems. They are quality Manufacturers.

Manufacturer drivers are a no-no anyway. Best to use ATI drivers unless you absolutely have to use the manufacturers.

Yah, exactly. I've heard of some actually getting better results, but rarely. They're usually not even up to date anyhow.

So, I've heard conflicting stories. Will a 4870+4830 be better then just running two 4830s?
