Hey XFX 4890 owners, do you guys run your fan on auto, or what speed? I find if its at 40% it is pretty loud and I hear it over all my other fans easily. I like auto, but my card heats up a lot. It idles at like 59C

Fan needs to be at 40%+ when gaming or else it'll heat up really fast. I used to leave my 4870 on 25% when idle and kicks up to 50% on load.

Use Rivatuner to set auto speed fan control.

Last option would be to get aftermarket cooling like a Scythe Musashi.

I run mine 30% for non gaming things, and 100% for crysis and benchmarking. 65% for normal gaming. Card only breaks 60c when using furmark to test stability.

i run mine @ 50% for gaming with speeds 960/1100. 970 on the core is fine but it makes not difference to performance, only benching.

also, to the guys running Furmark Stability Test with stock coolers and high clocks similar to mine, be careful ay. get something like Everest to check temps. CCC might show your core staying around 70c, but Everest also shows the temps for the Ram, Shader and VRM. at 960/1100 in Furmark Stability, my temps were about 70-72c but the VRM hit 95c and climbing so i stoppped it.

that was with the fan @ 100% too.

just leave mine on auto and we have the same idle temp 59C. when gaming while fan is on auto, average temp is 77C. you are right, i find 40% fan speed is annoying.

I have both of mine set to 60% all the time.
