Default Crossfiring question...

1.So in theory if i crossfire a 4850 and 4830(that's overclocked to perform on 4850 level) it will be the same as having 2x 4850(but at stock)?
2. What kind of oc do i need to reach on my 4830 to get it to 4850 speed?
3. And do i really need a crossfire bridge? Because i can't find a place where i can buy it(don't link me to newegg or other us/uk site)... If no , then do they include it with a 4850(if yes, specify the manufacturer)?

Crossfire will run at the slowest card speed....... I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm 90% sure it doesn't run at the slowest cards speed but it will use the memory of the card with the least amount

You probably already know this but you'd need a new board to go crossfire anyway.

Crossfire is set to run at the speed of the slower card, however if you overclock the slower one, i guess neither is the slower card so they both run at the same speeds :s

Shows difference between 4870 crossfire, 4850 crossfire and 4870+4850 crossfire Not exactly what you are asking but somewhat applicable.

The difference between a 4830 and 4850/4870 is that the 4830 only has 640 stream processors while the other two have 800. If you increase the clock speed of only the 4830, they still won't be equal.

Yes you need a crossfire bridge to crossfire. They come standard with all 4850s and do not come with 4830s.

1. yes. but take note that 4850 is 5% faster than 4830 clock for clock because of the additional sps. but i bet you won't notice the difference anyway, especially in crossfire.

2. just oc the 4830 to the speeds of the 4850 using ccc. or oc the 4830 to it's max then oc the 4850 to match that speed.

3. you definately need a cf bridge for that crossfire. it depends on the brand. though it's highly possible to get one with 4850 packages.

nVidia representative: PhysX, as seen in next-gen games like Batman:Arkham Asylum, PhysX makes your g200 based card BETTER than the 58XX series in all aspects. You'd be an idiot to buy ATI when you'd be forfeiting physX

It's not for me, that's why my board has nothing to do with it... And this was a theoretical question , it's just that i want this new setup to perform more on 2x 4850 level than on 2x 4830, because if i see like 5% difference it's not worth the extra money for the 4850...
And 4. Can i overclock a 4830 and then flash it to make those OC settings "default" , so that the person using it wouldn't have to oc it manually after every format?

Yep, you can. Just use RBE

no i dont think it will be as fast as 2 4850s as the 4830 only has 640 shaders and the 4850 has 800. but i could be wrong....
