If you honestly want a new CPU, go with either the Phenom II 940 BE, the Phenom II 720 BE or even one of the 9850, 9950 BE models. But it's honestly not your CPU. Do you have a spare hard drive around? Take out your old hard drive, re-install Windows on the new hard drive and then install the 9.2 Drivers, install WoW and then play see what kind of FPS you get.
That's actually a really good suggestion, KamuiRSX... I just need to find a spare harddrive. I'll check in my old comp in the closet!

First try to OC your CPU as much as you can. Even with a 2.2Ghz CPU you should be fine in 80% of the games. In Wow even with shadows on you should get more FPS. Right now i am playing wow with 1 4870 which is not a lot better then the 4850 i used to have and i am getting 60FPS and it never goes down. This is with everything maxed out. Reformating your computer and installing CPU will help you in same CPU intensive games because XP puts less strees in the CPU unlike vista.

Nice, I found an old 80GB. Gonna do the re-format and install 9.2 - Thanks, KamuiRSX!

Not really but to be honest, anytime you install new hardware in your system, you should format and re-install Windows. You should always do it when changing out graphics cards. Most people don't like to do it but the benefits outweigh any inconvenience it will cause you. You'll have a fresh clean system, fresh drivers, and absolutely no potential conflicts. I love Vista to be honest but to each his own.

Yeah - but if that's the case, shouldn't I just go straight to 9.4? Is 9.4 really that much worse than 9.2?

And thanks, KamuiRSX - you've been extremely helpful with your suggestions I think I'll stick to Vista seeing as I also use my computer for web design and it's much better at an assortment of things over XP.

Back to the Radeon X1950 to compare:

I am getting 100FPS running WoW fullscreen lowest details including lowest draw distance.
Definitely a noticeable difference running WoW fullscreen at highest details highest draw distance. Only getting about 12fps.

Both tested at 1280x1024 resolution and both using the old Radeon X1950 card.

So if I am getting 38fps (ish) running WoW full details maxed out everything on my HD4850, then maybe that's all I can get...

I was told I would see a 300% increase in frame rate. Which seems about right I suppose.... It just seems weird, cause it's WoW - and I thought I would get 60FPS easy maxed out everything - but maybe that game got some significant improvements to cause this.

Or maybe it truly is my CPU as Auld keeps saying. :P I dunno, it's a shame that most games don't utilize all 4 cores. Maybe quad core is still too far into the future. (The same as 64-bit Windows for driver support). From the looks of it, I don't think I can really OC my Phenom 9500 CPU.

I would hate to think that I am forced to purchase a new CPU just to take advantage of my new video card. After all the research I did, and everyone on the forums suggested to me the 4830 in the first place (seeing my specs below) - I went even a grade higher than that with the 4850.

Or maybe this mixture of hardware just wasn't meant for each other. PC hardware can be like that sometimes... where it doesn't play well together. I wish I could find somebody else with a Phenom 9500 and a HD4850, to see what their experience was like.

After page 2 I have heard enough about bottlenecking.... There is NO way that the 1950xt would push that processor. 1 hd 4850 won't be bottlenecked by much anyway.

I wish it were true, man! It seems to be bottlenecked by something right now, that's for sure...

also, it depends where you are in the World of Warcraft.... There are a lot of FPS issues with connectivity. I simply couldnt get more than 38-42 fps in Org with 2x 8800gts and an e6600, however when I would be out in the world I could get 100+. WoW is NOT the best game to benchmark
