Yeah, I understand the lag issue behind MMORPG but I'm looking at the FPS given by the game itself when hovering over the game menu button. This is the game lag I see when moving the camera around or moving my character, not the game lag due to ping latency.

Well 3DMark Vantage gives about 10-20FPS on all of the benchmarks if that helps give a better picture.

something is most likely wrong. That hardware (to answer your earlier question) is meant to work together well. Also, as far as bottlenecking goes, even if the 4850 were bottlenecked to the performance of a 3870, you would see noticeable improvements over the x1950. Reinstalling drivers might help or maybe a reformat.

Something seems wrong here.

Well I'm running XP now, installed 3Dmark 06.
Return to Proxycon (Test 1) starts off at 60fps but then it takes a dive to 19fps and seems to even out around 26ish fps. Still seems pretty low for DirectX9 and also an older benchmark. I haven't tested 3Dmark vantage yet.

This is all running latest 9.4 drivers and HD4850. I'm beginning to think maybe my card is defective. Or maybe these are perfectly normal numbers, it just isn't a great card on it's own? (Needs Crossfire support to get 60 FPS consistantly?)

Hmmmm... Very strange....

Hi Rev,

I've only got TF2 installed on the htpc at the moment. I've never had a problem with FPS on it even when the action gets a bit hectic, extremely rare to see it dip below 40fps. I run it without AA on though.

I can install whatever game you want benched though just to see how it runs? - Although I don't have WoW or NFS.

In work at the moment so it will be a few hours before I get home.

Your description of Proxycon in 3dmark sounds fine. My card hits the same min fps at certain points.

Thanks, glenbuck1914
I'll try 3Dmark Vantage (directX10) later on today and let you know what my FPS stands at running XP.
So if you have that program to compare that would be perfect.
Our systems seem pretty similar in specs.

Took me a while to get Vantage working, kept freezing on system scan. Finally discovered the blu ray was causing it and just managed to get a quick run done...

Performance 1280X1024

P6652

GPU 6518

CPU 7089

GPU Test 1: 18.74 fps

GPU Test 2: 19.46 fps

CPU Test 1: 890.62 p/s

CPU Test 2: 11.67 s/s

Have you managed to run it on your rig yet?

GPU Test1:
20FPS at some points took dive to 9FPS at other points.

I stopped it after that one.

To be perfectly honest I'm not really satisfied with this card. From the reviews I read, they were getting 60FPS on almost all games maxed details 1280x1024.

I think I'll stick to gaming on the PS3.

Thanks for doing the test anyways, glenbuck1914.

I should point out (perhaps this is where the confusion first started)
My old card is an "Asus EAX1950 PRO"

http://www.****************/reviews....e__eax1950pro_

Maybe it's been overclocked to be more powerful than normal X1950's.. But it is still generations behind.

Something I seen googling around- The power save settings in Vista can screw up the CPU clockspeed sometimes, running at 1 -1.5Ghz instead of 2.2.

Set the powersave setting in the Vista Control panel to high performance and see if it changes anything -It's worth a shot.
