Default HD4850 - Low FPS Issue

Hey everyone,
I recently purchased an ATI HD4850 graphics card and am experiencing pretty low FPS. In fact, there is hardly any improvement (if any at all) over my previous graphics card, an ATI X1950 Pro.

The HD4850 will handle Anisotropic Filtering much better than the X1950 Pro... but it doesn't seem to get past 27FPS on all of the games I have tried (World of Warcraft and NFS: Undercover). It almost feels like the graphics capabilities are cut in half and there is a data bottleneck somewhere.

I have used DriverSweeper to uninstall everything ATI related, rebooted my computer, and installed the latest Catalyst and ATI Drivers directly from the ATI website. But still to no avail.

I have also done some poking around and noticed this "TLB" issue with the Phenom CPU's. http://forums.amd.com/game/messagevi...&enterthread=y

I followed their instructions and disabled TLB Errata Patch in my BIOS, then ran their patch in Vista 32-bit, but it still hasn't fixed the low FPS.

I am beginning to wonder if it's my power supply. I have a 500W power supply. Should an upgrade to my power supply be a noticeable improvement in FPS?

Thanks for all your help everyone. Hopefully I can get this resolved and I am not already maxing out my card capabilites.... But sorry, 27FPS in WoW, Window & Fullscreen mode does seem pretty slow for the HD4850.... Even with max details... I'm pretty sure I can get more out of it.

If I remember correctly, your CPU is 2.2GHz stock. That could potentially bottleneck the HD4850, and rob you of performance.

Really? I thought I purchased my CPU only a year ago...
And if it's Quad Core doesn't that mean is 2.2GHZ x 4?

I ran 3DMark Vantage and got

P6696 3DMarks
CPU Score 6233
Graphics Score 6867

(However, it seemed to be showing approximately 11FPS during the video sequences...)

The same setup here.

I get decent frame rates @ 1920 x 1080 on most games. I haven't run 3dmark Vantage on it though. It scores about 11-12k in 06 as far as I can remember.

Is the fps of NFS or WoW capped in the config files?

That seems really low for the 4850.(Especially for WoW) I get great fps in most games, although if you have tried different drivers and cleaned with driver cleaner im not sure what the problem could be.
Maybe try OC'ing the cpu more. Also it couldnt hurt to clean out the registry and such with Ccleaner.

Personally bud, I like to format/re-install whenever I get new hardware. Your FPS are insanely low for this card unless you're playing at like some huge resolution. I would recommend you use ATI drivers 9.2 and the format/re-install and then see if the problem goes away.

I noticed you have a 9550 CPU - What sorta frame rate do you get, glenbuck1914?

LOL - well it sounds like that's what I might need to do then...
Cause ya.. this is pretty ridiculous....

And it shouldn't be my power supply because glenbuck1914 has the exact same card and is running a 430W power supply. (However, I thought the minimum for the HD4850's was 450W?)

With such a small resolution and the fact that you noticed zero gain from a nice GPU upgrade, the obvious bottleneck is that CPU.
