Default Crossfire!?!?

Hey guys another noob question. But i don't really know all that much about Crossfire. I currently have HD 3870... gonna get a 4890. Can these do crossfire?? Or have the cards got to be identical etc etc?

Thanks!

They don't need to be identical, but I am pretty sure they need to be from the same series 3000/4000. I think crossing a 3xxx with a 4xxx will give you problems.

Nope, a 3870 and a 4890 can't do crossfire.

The cards don't have to be exactly the same, (ie a 4850 and a 4890 can crossfire), but they need to be in the same generation as of now.

Solution, sell the 3870 buy a 4850 Just remember the lower clocked card will determine the speed of your over all crossfire.

nope, both cards can have independant clock speeds.

To OP you cant crossfire a 3870 with a 48** card. But the 3870 can got with the 29** cards. Not that you would want that

Yeah it can't be done but even if you could you would get better performance with just a single 4890.

nope you can't. you only can crossfire same series vgas' example 4800 series 4870x2 with 4870, or 4870 with 4850 and so on.

IMO, I think it's going to be much better. Especially if you're going from a single 3870 to xfired 4890's.
