Remember that Dell power supplies and systems use a proprietary standard. I don't remember all of the exact details but you cannot just replace the power supply and hope it works you have to replace the entire system as well because of their proprietary standard.

Should go for single 4850 or 4870. If you go for 3870x2, it is a 225w GPU so you need a soild 650w psu that can do 550w on 12v especially OC gpu and i7. Take a look at the Corsair 650tx.

That is a very good point. Are they still being all "zomg proprietary" with their psu's? Probably

Can you give the model number of your computer. Apparently they do a mix and match. Some are, some aren't. And I've been reading that some xps systems are normal. Model number would be useful

It's a Studio XPS 435MT if that helps but i don't think i'll have a problem with it. Read on the dell forums a guy used this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371015 and put a GTX280 in his. He hasn't had any problems at all in over a month.

Yeah I think you are fine with any PSU.

Quote:
I just modded my 435MT with a new case and power supply Voidware is correct you can change the power supply. Some people were questioning wheather is was possible or not; I bought a Antec server 550 case ,it comes with a 550watt truepower trio psu.The Studio 435MT mother board is standerd mATX, so any aftermarket case can be used

Seems like dell have finally started to make a move away from the proprietry.

Maybe it's just me But some time ago i ran two 4850's in CF with just a 550w. PSU With no problem.

About the GPU, I would also go for the 4870. But 4850 in CF performs much better then the single 4870.

HIS are pretty good. That particular card has the ICEQ4 cooler which is meant to be better than reference. The only reservation I would have buying off eBay is that it can often cause complications if you ever need an RMA.
