Clear my bios? Sorry for the dumb question, but how do I do this? I'd have to take out the 4870 to do this I would imagine.

SO on your PSU BFG 800 you have 4- 6pin connectors? you must connect them to the video card.....since your running in Crossfire....but your PSU only has 2 6pin.... If this is your Power supply

Your PSU: To add a bit of insult to injury, there are only two PCI-E 6-pin connectors and not a single 8-pin PCI-E connector in sight. This is an 800W power supply and in this day and age people use these high wattage power supplies to power dual 8800GTX cards or something very close to that. Without using the Molex to 6-pin connectors included with the cards, there is no way to power dual 8800GTX or HD2900XT cards with the BFG 800W power supply.

My 4870x2 is connected with 1x6pin + 1x6+2pin (runs fine), and the 4870 is connected with 2x6pins. So I essentially have 4 6pin (1 being 6+2). The 2 x 6pins were free so I can't see how that doesn't support an extra GPU.

With the Crossfire strip, which way should the writing read, from bottom to top I assume?

@ Josh, I had overlooked the spare crossfire plug I have, I'll update once I have tried it.

**EDIT** @ Honda I actually have 2x6+2 pins, so if this PSU is clearly built for modern muilti GPU setups. So I think you have your facts are little out.

Right the card didn't work on my monitor but I remembered I had this issue with my 260. So I've switched monitors and it works. About to mount the 4870x2 again and see if I get TriFire running.

But CCC picks the 4870 up as only "4800 series (N17...I think)". Is that right for a single 4870? Also temps are ~70c idle. Latest drivers installed.

I just uninstalled all drivers for a clean install. Installed 9.4's and now my 4870x2 isn't detected, just a 4800 series card (the 1gb 4870 I assume). Also, the main boot is from the single 4870 now by default, no display/drivers on other card...even tho it is in primary PCI slot.

Any ideas?

**EDIT** Since I have reinstalled the drivers the x2 upon boot revs fans to max 3 times with the middle LED lighting up each time.

I can verify that my 4870 is displayed as a 4800 series as well and cannot be registered as a 4870.

No clue why it is so strange

Appreciated, a little peace of mind.

Gonna try and install drivers on each device separately as atm its not working with both cards installed at once.

Just to throw it out.. When I went CF with my 4870/512s I had a 750w Ultra PS and I had a lot of issues. I hooked up a second PS just for testing to the 2nd Vid card and everything worked fine. Long story short went the a 1000w PS now life is good.

Not sure if this will help but, when I first hooked up CF I could see bios info. on one card and windows on the other got kind of confusing. After all drivers were loaded and CF set up everything works on the top card.

Good luck
Right it's all now working, however the 4870 is acting as the primary and not the x2. How can I change this. Boot by default is the 4870 now but obviously I'd want it to be the 4870x2.
