Interesting. I would have thought they would be about equivalent since the 4870X2 is just doing Xfire right on the card? Or is the advantage that you spread the cooling over two cards and therefore higher OC on the individual 4870's?

Curious... Will have to do a little research... Google here I come

Wow! Now that's GPU scalability. 4870 1GB -> 4870 1GB CF yields exactly double min frame rate and "close" to double average frame rate.

Completely true. CF and tri-fire scale extremely well.

Another question. I have the OCZ StealthXstream 600W supply shown in the link below. Think this would be able to handle a crossfired 4870 setup with a Q6600 (OC 3.6GHz) on a P5Q-Pro, Watercooled, and a single hard drive and a DVD drive?

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...ly-review.html

edit

I also have the supply linked below in another machine. It is 750W with 45A shared rail. Maybe I should swap that over since it is severely underutilized on the other machine?

You're in a nice cruise boat. I'm in a rowboat

Trying to do this cheap and use OC skills to get me close to much more expensive setups.

shouldnt be too hard if you increase the volt and put the cards into your loop.
