HD 4870x2 Secong GPU not active...please help - Overclock.net

hi,

i recently got a 4870x2 video card and i'm having problems installing it properly in vista x64. after _many_ hours on google i finally managed to get one GPU working. however, i can't get the second GPU to work for the life of me. please help me if you can.

here are the problems i'm having:

1. i've tried all catalyst drivers from 8.6 to 9.6 (with and without CCC) and with the exception of 8.11 they all resulted in a BSOD as soon as i got to the vista login screen after a reboot (i get the good old atikmdag.sys BSOD...).

2. I've tried using 3dgorum driver sweeper to delete all ATI related files and nvidia as well. Then reinstalled the driver. But didn't work.

3. I've tried both Vista 32 , 64 but not change.

4. According to GPU-Z it says that the second GPU is enabled but I see 0% activity when I run games. Another thing is that it says sideport off (unsure on Vista64)

any ideas how to get the second GPU to work?

I am using a x48 P5e Deluxes from ASUS and running Vista64 and my PSU is 750W please help!

Do you have a friends computer which you could try it in? It's either your mobo, card, or psu.

Unfortunately I don't have a friend who has an PIC-E slot built in

it's sad but yeah I dont have a friend who can support this Video card.

I'm using a p5E Deluxe x48, I'm sure it can pretty much handle it. and PSU hmmm I;m running a 750W Corsair. And as far as I know my card is not broken or anything because I've tried extending my desktop with another monitor coming out from the other slot.... What should i do?

It cant b the OS but its better you try it on a FRIENDS PC

Well do you have another GPU, possibly the one that was in there before? How is your fps in-game?

how are you monitoring the gpu activity? is the game in windowed mode?

Sounds to me like the second GPU isn't be enabled because of driver issues, or it's a bad card, I'd RMA is back to whom ever made your card, or if you within the return period of the store you bought it from and swap it.

When I extend them into my secondary desktop, I see the second GPU's activity kicking in, but that would be pointless to have ccc running.... As for my concern I don;t think the card has problems... I've seen activities before... but it's only when I hook up another monitor into the second output...hmmmmm.....I'm running "call of Juarez" in windowed mode and using GPU-Z and I have two of them opened one for the main GPU and the other one for the slave GPU, the first GPU's activity kicks into about 99% and the second GPU's activity is 0% ....I also tried doing the folder@ home but I had no idea what that program was for so I gave up on that.I also ran 3dmark06 and the fps are so low compare to people who've been able to work with the secondary GPU.... I'm not sure what I should do.... I threw my box away so i can't return it either....Gosh... I've spent about 3weeks now and installing all different kinds of versions....now I'm trying to install windows xp 64 to see what happens...
