OP: I would completely start over. Install XP using one 4890. Don't install any drivers, the screen should at least work without them. Then install all of the service packs and follow it by installing the second 4890. Then install your drivers. Try 9.6. If that doesn't work, do this same process bu with 9.5, etc.

I know that sounds like a waste, but theoretically, it should work. Everything will be flawless for the the cards. If they don't work then, it's time to give ATI a shout. If they say contact Diamond, say no. This is an ATI issue.

Hope that helps.
I appreciate that suggestion but I do not want to reinstall XP. My disc is bad also....LOL. What I may do since I really do not need the 2 cards is just go with my GTX280, return the 4890's. BTW, they are good cards. They benchmark (1 X) about the same as my GTX280. I will say they are pretty equal. So... If I take em back may get that Phenom II 955 I wanted with the money and juts get Vista with the rest. I will have $500 to spend. The drivers and CCC are just such a pain compared to Nvidea. The only bummer is my mobo supports crossfire and with my GTX280 I will have to live with 1 card... Bummer.....LOL

I will say 1 thing. Diamond my manufacturer blws. They work 9-5 california hours and no weekends. This is pretty much the hours that a lot of peeps work so forget phone tech support. I bought a EVGA GTX280 and they have 24/7 tech support. Diamond just does not get it. 2/3 of the population need support later and weekends. I will get in touch with the president of the company. I actually got in touch of the main dude of Nascar in New York one time. I am good at that.
lol, I got somethin for ya - if I can dig up this email on Diamond Support. Look at the dates in bold for response time.

I am very close to returning both cards. I spent close to $500 and never had this problem with Nvidea. My mobo is crossfire certified so I really wanted to get this to work. BTW, I do have an 850W PSU so that is not an issue.

This points to a registry problem, that and the fact W7 has no issues.

Restore to a point before the registry cleaning or reformat.

There are HUGE performance cuts from 1680 x 1050 to 1920 x 1200 in Crysis with the 4890. I have a feeling I'll be around 40 average.

I notice absolutely NO framerate loss in crysis with any level of AA turned on.

if you do an uninstall and driver sweep with a registry clean and delete ATI file shouldn't it be as if the drivers and CCC never existed? and a new install work?

It never worked in XP so there really is no restore point.

Hey, When I got my 2 asus 4890's I uninstalled the drivers I was using for my 2-4870x2s and then restarted ran driver cleaner pro and then shut down installed the 4890's installed 9.4 drivers and it would not work. I could not get anything. I reinstalled and still couldn't get them working. I put the 4870x2's back in and they ran fine. When I contacted ASUS the first thing they asked me was if I ran The CD that came with the cards. "NO!! I installed the latest Control center and Catalyst drivers! Why would I have run the CD??!!" I ran the CD and well I went from 21000 in 3dm06 to 28893. If you have not ran the disk give it a shot. Uninstall the verion of CCC and drivers you are using first, then restart and run the disk.
