Disable crossfireX on your 4850 X2 to run 3-4 monitors.

Np. I've been through the same situation myself. Even with soft mods, I was never able to play a game over 3 monitors with a single 4850 X2. Gaming on one monitor while powering three monitors (CFX off) wasn't bad; a single 4850 can play any game fairly well be itself. It's still cool to power 3-4 monitors with one card.

it is ok not to be able to play games...

i really want the multi tasking ability...
plus i got the Acer 23" (running at 1680x1050 though)
it look so much better than my other Acer 22" nearly night and day
now this VGA 22" Envision has to go
it is a 6x9 the other 2 are 6x10
it looks kinda strange/mismatched

lol
i will get another Acer eventually

just throwing this out there

can i run a second video card (not in SLI or Crossfire)
it's not even possible the second card is Nvidia

but i was wondering if i can run the other card and then inable CrossfireX for my 4850 x2
so i can get the most from it
but still have all 3 able to multitask without having to "inable" crossfireX
for a game then disable for regular stuff

Another reason ATI fails, you can't run multiple monitors with SLI/Xfire Thats why I like Nvidia

For one, you don't know what you are talking about. In any CF configuration, you can run 1-2 monitors. Second this thread is talking about running 3 monitors, which the 4850 has 4 dvi outlets.

Ati rules!

what i said was...

i have 2 different cards by both ATI and Nvidia

i was asking if i could use them at the same time without conflict

probably not, but i can get an older ATI 1600X to be exact, and try this...

not sure how many PCI slots your mobo has OP, but you can run your 4850x2 in CF and add another ATi card (if you run XP or Win7 you can run either an ati card + nvidia card, but in Vista you have to stick w/ both being ATi or Nvidia due to Vista only allowing you to install a single type of GPU driver).

ie. I have CF enabled on 2 of my Toxics to run my 30" @ 2560x1600 for gaming while I have another single Toxic to run my 2x20" @ 1600x1200, I can enable the 3rd in CF if I wanted to max out my FPS/Benchmark sessions, but as you know I would have to disable the 3rd display...but I usually disable the 2x20" when benchmarking/maxing out the FPS
