I'm used to fan noise for the most part. It still is borderline annoying, but it's not at all bad since it's always a nice steady ambient-ish sound.

I would like to change the cooler out as soon as I can afford it, and actually had thought about trying this asus quad-pipe cooler I have off of a 4870(currently mounted on 3850 in pic).

Maybe I'll do a little cooler experiment tomorrow.
edit: 4:34AM PST
Got anxious and found out that the quad-pipe won't fit(memory plate/heatsink issues), but also that the stock GPU heatsink and memory plate are made VERY cheaply.

The main GPU heatsink is extremely light and ENTIRELY aluminum sans 3 very light copper heatpipes. It's also very small. I'd estimate 40mm wide by 90-100mm long. It's stupid small. The memory plate also seems lighter than what I'd expect. I took pics, I'll post them when I wake up.

I can't wait until I can get an aftermarket heatsink for it. I don't despair topo much over the 100% fan, but it's ridiculous seeing how inefficient the base design is. I could have designed a better heatsink and probably have it just as cheap *sigh*.

Nice my bday is aug 7th. Probably will use that $$ towards a DSLR camera or towards a Corsair 1000HX or 2nd 4890. I got a job lined up in MN that will pay really well, so I will use some of that money to get the rest of the stuff :P. Enjoy school, knowledge is power....kinda

Just ordered a SCVMS-1000 Scythe Musashi off of XPCGear for $35.99($47.70 w/ tax and shipping). The stock cooler on this thing is pitiful, lol.

Does that fit a 4890? They don't list it as one of the compatible cards.

It fits the 4870, thus it fits the 4890. You can also refer to this thread

Idles 50-55*C for me. Haven't logged temps to see what I'm getting during games. Probably up to 85*C.

I have the exact same card as OPs. Mine barely oc's at all. Anyhow. Still got another one in its box to try, cba to doing it though
