Default Rig for College bound

You guys may remember me, was saving money for a rig but it was hard because I was also saving for college. Anyway got the money together for a new rig except I have some concerns over the 4850.

My case has HORRIBLE air circulation. And I am afraid with the 4850 being an already hot running card it will not be put in a good situation. Would a 3870 be a better option because it runs cooler? This computer is mostly for photoshop and other photographic adventures. I only game in moderation or very little at all, but that's not to say a nice GPU would be fun to have.

Thanks!!!

I wouldnt be too worried, so long as its one with a shroud that pushes all the hot air outside the case.

3870 wont run that much cooler to warrant the downgrade, why not just buy a cheapo antec 300 and get amazing airflow? don't have to worry about it then. Also i don't know if you know about these programs that let you increase fan speed to make your card run cooler. Stock fan is stuck around 50% on ati cards and that's just too low.

The 4850s don't run that hot really, just make sure you get one with a nice cooler on it (or put put one on yourself).

This 512MB XFX 4850s on sale for $90 shipped (1GB is $117)...plus it exhausts from case

I have a 4850 Asus TOP I'd be willing to get rid of cheap. Big fan, big heatsink, hooray!

4850s run cool. I have 8 case fans and my 4890 idles at 62C, my sister has 3 (stock) and her 4850 FAN edition (that's right, with the little blob of crap cooler) idles at 33C.
