I know, insane isn't it? I don't know why the projects aren't all jumping onto the GPU bandwagon for both brands. I know CUDA has the lock on that market currently, but as you can see - ATI is there......

I attached my GPU and 1 core to the Collatz conjecture project (my GPU isn't supported by MilkyWay, doesn't have double shaders or something). The other 3 cores are still running World Community Grid. I'm thinking of stepping up to a higher GPU but power usage is a huge concern for me since I would prefer to have one without external power being required.

For the time being, the 4670 is completing Collatz conjecture projects in about 35 minutes - 40 minutes. CPU takes about 7-8 hours to complete 1 WU.

Good job dude. And that 4670 is relatively low power right (59 watt max on stock clocks)? With 320 stream threads that still isn't bad at all.

Those just must be tougher work units. Maybe I'll give one a try...did you get it right from Collatz's site or do I just attach to the project?

You have to attach to the project using the development boinc client (currently 6.10.7). Within the client, go to advanced>preferences and tick off "use gpu while computer is in use". Then go to the Collatz "my account" page, login and then go to "computing preferences" scroll down to the bottom and click "edit preferences" and choose "no" for "Suspend GPU work while computer is in use? ". After a bit, your computer should be getting Collatz ATI units (named "collatz 2.00 (ati)" under "application" tab in the "tasks" tab of boinc.

Hope this helps

EPIC BUMP! I'm having some difficulty setting up milkyway@home to use my GPU, anything I am missing? Using 6.10... kinda new to using BOINC. >_>

Hey Spooooon!!! I haven't actually used my GPU yet on the Milkyway@Home project because it isn't supported (4670 doesn't support double precision) so I might not be able to help you to get it working, but from what I know, go into boinc client and go advanced>preferences and checkmark "Use GPU while computer is in use" Then login ot milkyway@home projects' My Account page (http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/home.php) and then go to computing preferences and then change the value of "Suspend GPU work while computer is in use?" value to no. A detach and reattachment of the project may also be required.
Hit me back if this works

Sorry guys, at work...yes - get the 6.1.0.whatever (7 now, I'm on 6 - should update it)...

THEN get the optimized ATI app from Milkyway forum links (I'll save you the trouble here):
Message boards: http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_index.php

Milkyway optimized apps: http://zslip.com/

READ the readme's EXTREMELY CAREFULLY - BEWARE OF CCC version... 9.2 and above needs a tweak - it's a pain in the rear, but I got it to work..

should be noted, WHEN you make the file name change - CREATE COPIES OF THOSE FILES FIRST...YOU NEED BOTH COPIES..

hope that helps - I'll respond more tonight - try it out and post a vid of it working!!

6.10.11 is the latest version of BOINC.

Hey if you are using Collatz Conjecture on your ATI card, they recently updated the files for the card and so far a lot of users have been reporting ~25% performance increases

Oh nice! Still installing my apps from a fresh install, does Fraps record desktop? If so I'll record a nice little vid of it working!
