FRAPS doesn't work either - tried it when I saw the message...that stinks - I thought of it the other night too - but grabbed my camcorder instead...
So Gamer...so you got Collatz, but no Milkyway - will that still be the case when full ATI support is out, it depends on the project in question. Seems that both projects would need similar precision....but what the heck do I know. We need to get you a 4800 series card bro.... So it's been floated around Milkyway crunching threads.....how cool would an actual 3D model of the Milky Way Universe using the collective data of the project as a screensaver be? Come on...that'd be sick. Here's my take on it (and feel free to pipe in)...take the final data after it's been handed to the astronomers...if the point is to create a 3d model - they're gonna know the size and makeup of the area in question. I mean - we're talking millions of stars - the screensaver would only need to render a small portion - say whatever star stream they're scanning in the previous workunits.... Put the title of the WU's at bottom where they were from - and where it is in the universe...like seti sort of does... Oh that would be so cool. Only issue I see is that even a ghetto version would take a core away and would certainly impact the crunching on the GPU - a defeating self-fulfilled prophesy! But it would be cool nontheless, and if news story hit the wires...generate interest in the project (lots of new stories on BOINC this week!)... Speaking of cool... I bit the bullet and bought one of CyberDruids 3 bay cascading waterfall reservoirs for my rig.....check em out!...I got the last one for a bit - but hell, give the guy demand and who knows.... SICK POLYCARBONATE WATERFALL RESERVOIRS! Last thing: Milky way servers down still for anyone? guess that means some Left 4 Dead: Crash course survival in my immediate future.... Unless anyone can confirm Gungame OCN server on CSS is up tonight..

I'm most likely getting that new Juniper line of Radeon cards. Fits my budget better. It's rumored to be about $200 when it comes out and apparently it's a likely replacement for 4850 and it's apparently going to consume less power. So for now I'm just holding out that that. Was considering 4870 but the power usage turned me off and why buy that when newer tech coming out in the near future.
Yeah a lot of projects might use the Double precision. Good job on collatz using single precision, it's not just the 3x+1 or dividing by 2 rule needs double precision. Its just subbing in the value for x and continuing until you get to 1

Update!!
It's HERE: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php Version 6.10.17 released: 30 Oct 2009
I tried ghetto rigging Collatz to run on my onboard HD3200 on my new HTPC and I can't get it to recognize it (pretty sure it was recognizing it in previous versions). All the more reason to buy another card. Shame the 5800's are still impossible to buy. I'm on the fence as to either get 1 4890 for $160 or 2 4770's for $220...... either will kick the hell out of the onboard - remember I'm moving the 4870 to the HTPC and whatever I buy will be in the sig rig. Unless 5850's suddenly become available and are less than $300 (ridiculous - everyone stole my idea to pork eveyone on eBay).

BTW Milkyway on a 4890 burns through WU's in about 27 seconds. And I mean burns!!! VRM's are hitting 100c on it

So is this fully optimized for the 870?

Wow, 27 seconds huh... I'm at 43ish. I couldn't get the app tweak to do more than one wu though (I did try!)
I do have a monitor plugged into the VGA port on the motherboard. It also has DVI and HDMI as well - is that what they mean when the folders talk about "dummy plugs"? Should I try plugging something into the DVI or HDMI in addition to my VGA port? Would that screw up CCC - thinking it had a second monitor - trying to extend desktop or something? Out of curiosity - is the HD3200 even worth crunchin on - or is it a joke? I just thought it would be so funny that it would be worth a try. ALSO, another update. Crunching on CPU only on the HTPC keeps my living room at 71C without the heat on. But this weekend looks to be colder in NEw England... so we'll see. Adding the vid card would make the room perfectly comfortable at all times!

I wouldn't say fully optimized yet - but if you unleashed your 5870 on Milkyway you'd be taken aback by the performance. There are some dudes already running it (and running away with their recent average points
)As you can see by my 4870 and the poster above's 4890 (which I've seen youtube video of)....ours are insane - yours would just blow us out of the water.

I'm not sure if VGA/DVI makes a difference for the onboard IGP but yes that's pretty much what the folders are on about with dummy plugs so GPU's get recognized. It shouldn't screw up CCC- I haven't had a problem with it. Just extend the desktop to the second monitor on the HD3200 and when you start Boinc it should pick it up. ^^ Can't wait to see those results. Just install Boinc 6.10.17, attach to the milkyway project and accept gpu work. If your running different cards in your rig (ATI/Nvidia) you'll need an app info xml file in the Milkyway projects folder so it will request work for an ATI card. If your new to Boinc gpu crunching let me know as soon as you have Boinc installed and I'll upload the ATI app_info.xml file for you.

5770 doesn't have double precision.
![]() Collatz Update: They upped the worksizes by 50% to lessen the load on the server due to ATi cards cranking out units in minutes (mine did units in 9-10 minutes), so now they take 50% longer (for me it takes 13-14 minutes)
