Probably not. The BOINC version you need is above.

Apparently - this version should download the appropriate apps you'd need to crunch. Another pain in the butt thing is that we all had to rename some dll files (in the readme to the optimized app - READ THAT SUPER CAREFULLY)

In case it doesn't - both Collatz and MilkyWay have great forums pointing where to go. I'll include a couple links below:

MILKYWAY@HOME homepage = http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/
Just be aware they sometimes have server issues...(if you can't connect)... people are bugging them to get on top of it.

Milkyway Optimized APPS: http://www.brilliantsite.com/milkyway/

Milkyway Crunching boards (where to go when you're stuck): http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/...forum.php?id=2

Collatz@home homepage: http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/

Collatz Crunching Section: http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/forum_index.php

Collatz optimized apps page: http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/power_apps.php

BOINC homepage: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/

Complete list of BOINC projects you can crunch for (it's never really complete - but it's a good place to start): http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Project_list

PS - remember that you can only use GPU on 2 projects as of now. There are others for CUDA (including SETI!)

ATI users finally have something they can compete with (compared to getting smoked repeatedly by Nvidia users while folding).

PPS - also note the CPU utlization for the GPU use I've noticed is WAYYYY better than what I experienced while folding (even when I tweaked those settings).. and in most cases it's configurable.

PPPS - There are a number of Stats trackers that track your progress against ALL your projects... It's really cool - I hope you all enjoy, find some use - and now go help some scientists why don't you!!

I'm really glad this thread is still alive, OCN needs more BOINC love. A lot of people can't see past FAH. It's all for a good cause

I like it because it runs great on linux and doesn't need me to babysit it all the time. Shame my GPU isn't supported though, even though it's CUDA capeable n all...

Welcome back bro - great point to poitn out - it's pretty well known that Linux provides a 30% bump (at least for me) on the CPU side of crunching. Currently all the ATI apps are Windows only but - Gipsel just created a Linux x64 version for Collatz (blam).

when the clients are more mature and running on Linux - watch out. (also note CUDA is all set for Linux - but as boyd points out - there isn't any apps for it yet - I'm pretty sure the CUDA ones (SETI in particular) are still Windows specific.

On that note - I'll catch you guys in a few hours after my daughter goes to bed (not being rude when I don't answer).

Your much better at explaining it I forget how much is involved in getting it up and running.

Those dll's are in C:\Windows\System32\: atcalcl64.dll , aticaldd64.dll & aticalrt64

Copy and rename those 3 files in the system32 folder to amdcalcl64.dll , amdcaldd64.dll & amdcalrt64.

I might have found a use for that HD3200. There's an ATI CPU + GPU beta at the moment for SETI over at http://lunatics.kwsn.net/ . I tested it out a few weeks back and it hardly uses the 4890 but does give a 20% speed boost to SETI units. It might just be perfect for the HD3200 + cpu. I'll test that out tomorrow.

Wholeheartedly agreed I really have a distaste for the obsession with FAH & PPD. Do we have an overclock.net boinc team? As all my projects I just pick random teams for at the moment but if you guys are organized you may as well have the points

I found one, it was called GPUGrid i believe, couldn't run it though. At the moment i just run all the bio-medicine ones and it juggles between them.
Edit: Just checked and it's GPUGrid.net, and it needs 64bit linux.

That would be a good idea. I don't think we do, i usually join the UK boinc team.

Choose a project in there, and the 2nd column is the URL you want to enter in the attatch projects menu. Then you'll be asked to make an account or log-in.

For teams, I've attached myself to AMD Users. I've spoken at length with the Folding@home moderator here on OCN and they as a group (admins) have talked about it. Their take is that with the OCN Folding@home team being as organized as it is, they don't want to steal the thunder from it and take away from it. They don't want to fractionalize the effort. (I can appreciate this standpoint, while respectfully disagreeing).

I personally don't see a BOINC OCN team as a competitor (especially since it's primarily CPU based - which is 1/2 of OCN anyways) - but more as an alternative. With 100,000 OCN members strong - we can have both and live happy lives without them interfering with each other (assuming idiots don't cause fights between the groups).
If I had the blessing of the OCN admins, I'd certainly create a team and take you all on with me .

Like you guys are saying - it's all for a good cause. What's great about BOINC is it's diversity in projects...you can model the Milkyway, figure out Sudohku, fold (JUST like folding@home) and much, much, much more.

Folding@home is important, don't get me wrong. All I'm saying is, so is figuring out the Milkyway and the model for the entire universe (Cosmology@home's goal). Our grasp on physics is every bit important to our daily lives as the threat of cancer is. For me - that's more interesting - for others, they might stick with math related or biology related programs.

Point is, the future is here folks - distributed computing is coming of age - and with parrallell processing on GPU's - ALL of us can now have and operate our own supercomputers (without the foolish Quadro cards! lol). You pick your interest, and you donate - it's that's simple. There is no choice in Folding@home...that's the only difference I see.

And yes - the folder (System32) trick above IS the way to do it. The only thing I'd stress is "copy and rename" - the goal is to have both copies of files with both names in that folder to get it to work.

PS - thanks for helping Grunion guys - get him up and running while I'm away so we can show him the awesomeness!
