What did I do wrong, appears to be running on my cpu.

Milkyway might get a bit complicated so bear with me..

Go here: http://www.brilliantsite.com/milkyway/index.htm and download the file appropriate to your setup as there are optimizations for 32/64 bit amd/intel..etc

It's just the settings for getting gpu units. As it sometimes detects the Nvidia card and moans about not having CUDA work and subsequently won't give you any work!!!

Have you copied and renamed the ATI CAL DLL's? - If not do that now.

You might need to hit the "reset project" button and restart boinc if it has already detected the Nvidia gpu.

Also don't be surprised if it takes a while to download some wu's , the Milkyway server is having serious "issues" at the moment



Collatz...

You need to select GPU work only - in the Collatz preferences on your account webpage. Reset the project as well to clear the CPU tasks.

Have to go now but this faq is a good guide for running CUDA & CAL apps in boinc

Edit: Sorry grunion I noticed a mistake with the app info for Milkyway, I've made a correction to the milkyway instructions above regarding downloading the correct app_info.

Is there anything listed in the "messages" tab? As it should run automatically unless you've clicked suspend project. The messages tab has all the good info.

Just edited the above regarding the app_info for Milkyway, as the one I uploaded earlier was optimized for amd64 and won't run correctly on an intel cpu

Click on "activity" at the top of the boinc window and select "run always".

Ok, I get those errors too coming up on my intel box running a 4890 & 250GTS. It can generate weird errors from time to time in a multi gpu config, but as long as it's downloading the correct units it should be fine.

Incidentally what drivers are you running? As I've only run collatz without issue with the nvidia 185.xx , 191.xx and Cat 9.10 & 9.11 beta. I haven't tried it with any others yet.

In the "tasks" window, if you widen the application column can you see if it has already downloaded nvidia & ati units, like in the pic attached. As it looks fine in the screenie you posted. I'm just wondering why the application is failing to start the downloaded units.

yup

Can you check your preferences in boinc manager- "Advanced" tab, then click on processor usage. The option is there for boinc to run while the cpu/gpu is in use.

Edit: That timer is normal, it's not an error, just for server communication to download/upload more projects/results. There's a limit to how many wu's you can download per app. So you will get deferred communication messages from the server if your projects are "full" or sometimes the server is just plain old busy.
