No worries

Your electric bill won't be thanking me though!! The only thing more powerful than that cpu and those gpu's at 100% is the LHC

Wow my 295 cores are at 92 & 93
Been awhile since they've seen the 90's.
5870 is mid 60's.

Any particular way to exit/pause without losing data?
How do I check for errors, like f@H eue's and such?
How do I track my stats?

What are the VRM temps like on the 5870? And the power draw at 100%

You have the option to suspend the whole project (all tasks related to the project) in the projects tab - left hand side or individual tasks in the tasks tab options on the left. If you suspend an individual task the next task (if there are any queued up) will start immediately

In the projects tab there's a websites button for each project, click it and login to the account you setup when joining the project. You can view your stats, task eue's.. links to 3rd party stat sites.. etc. All the seperate project account webpages look similar it's not long before you work them out.

Nice to see a lot of members jumping onto BOINC and the Collatz project. Hopefully one of our own gets their rig to find the next big step in collatz.

Boinc really puts a beating on my overclocks, f@h stable clocks have returned errors on my 295.
5870 is blazing through these units, 7min vs 20min.
Don't really know if you can compare times directly between the 2 cards.

Holy cow...I can't believed you unleashed all that last night, I got the alerts but didn't have time to respond. That's pretty crazy. Good to see you got running finally. Yes, "Advanced Preferences" is your friend, get to know it backward, forward and sideways. It can absolutely kill both your CPU, motherboard, GPU - hell even your RAM. I never set mine above 100 (4 cores) 95%...I always leave 5 % for the OS....but I can fully browse with that setting (4 windows open now for example). But when I listen to music too - I'll kick it down to 3 cores (75%)....what happens there - my chips temps go down to a nice level (assuming you haven't set any affinities etc..)...

Yeah, as to your last post - it does put a beating on them, now you guys see why I've been using this to test stability and benching. If I want my systems to crunch...I can't achieve maximum clocks...but that's ok...because these calculations are just as impressive if you ask me.

And OCCT and burn and all those apps...all great - but this has a purpose and is just as finicky if not worse (kinda like pi - but not as bad - as some clocks I use (upstairs on 550) will throw errors on pi but be fine for BOINC..C'est la vie

Question - did you figure out which one the 295 is crunching on? )milkyway? I'd think the only fair way to judge would be same app same work unit...(use two separate systems instead of vm?) How do you run different GPU's at the same time (besides physx...do you load both driver sets?), Basically with my 4 PCIE Lanes...I'd definitely use both brands if I could...that'd be funny.

On a side note, I hate you for owning both those cards. I may just start a hate rant for TSMC next Friday. How on Earth did two complete rival brands - which collectively own the super majority and much more of the market share percentage of ALL GPU's on the face of the Earth....choose the same darn company to manufacture both cometing brands latest and greatest chips?? Who are those bright people? It's absolutely a major reason we don't have 5800 series and a stalled development of the 300's for Nvidia are being hindered by this mess.....and it's killing us all price-wise on both sides of the GPU fence.

In re HD3200 - can't get BOINC to recognize the GPU....sick of looking for older versions of client...so it was time for the real card to be bought.

Broke down and got the 4890 on the egg for $160 after rebate....sick looking HIS.. and I liked my HIS I have now...so...after the debate of 2X 4770's @$220...I couldn't do it knowing the 5800's will be back close to that price in a few months...no DX11 for this guy, as the 5750 and 5770 's don't do double precision, another bright move for whatever reason. 4890 for $160 is unbelievable stil.l..I'll OC the pee outta it. (within temps of course - that's the new game.)

So my trusty 4870 going on this machine (htpc I'm on now, 940 BE 8 GB) - and 4890 going on Jailbreak (sig rig 550@ 3.78). By no means do I feel this is a downgrade for that card - it has been the most impressive card I've ever owned! It has a job heating that living room now!!!

Which leaves me with 3 PCIE lanes....I'd definitely toss in an Nvidia (for Seti). 216 shaders on a 260 just seems like such a boot in the rear compared to 800 on 4890...it's a mental block for me, even though I know those cards are good. 275's and 285's are still outrageosly priced in my humble opinion. (guy's like you must be loaded lol....whole different category entirely) Optimally in 18-24months I'd foresee all 4 lanes - 2 ATI, 2 NVidia...now that would be fun

So back to 5850's when they're normally priced again....price bump and lack of availability - 5850's are going for $300+ and add $100 for the 70's....that's nuts...the first adoptors won out this time unlike I've ever seen in my life........ I never thought holding off a month would ever make me miss out like this....so mad at myself

I have no idea what the 295 is crunching.
I only used the collatz url, so I assume it's all collatz related.
Right now I'm in set it and forget mode until I have time to sit down and figure everything out.
Can I assign the 295 independent of the 5870?

Cards are plug and play in W7, both can drivers function normally.
I definitely would like fermi now, but I can't blame tsmc completely, NV's complacency is partially to blame.

Pic of the crunching.

Oh and I've gone to stock on my 295 and it' still spits out the occasional error.
Guess I'll try different drivers.

Pic of the crunching.

Attachment 128610
Pic helped...(I see you found the first trick to ditch the simple view).

You see how the tasks show which GPU it's using?? You can tweak which one is running at a time by hitting suspend on the task - or by project.. so like here's a scenario I just did.

I had 4 cosmos running. I hit suspend on the project level.
Then I hit "allow new tasks" on seti. Then I hit update. It downloaded and started running 4 of those.

I then hit "Resume" on Cosmo on project level. It won't run anything more because I have the 4 Seti's running.

I then hit suspend on 2 of the Seti's.

At this point, 2 of the 4 Cosmos I had been running now restart.

Bliss. 50/50 spit perfectly for the projects.

Now take that knowledge and go back to your pic. You can see the app being used on your wu's are different for ati and cuda. But - you can see the work units are similar - if not from the same set (look at the number sequence).

Now we'd have to check with the Seti folks, but I think we could definitely compare the apps, brands and GPU's themselves now. The wu's seem very similar (6 series vs. 7? - look at the numbers...) If they're of the same size...I don't see why not.

It's running 2 on your 295....that's so sweet...but....

If the above is true - your 5870 is absolutely stomping the 295...Yes, you get 2 wu's with that card...but at 30 mins compared to 6:45????wow...... (totalling 13:30 for 2 ATI to 30 mins for 2 for NVidia or...it takes ATI 44% of the time to do the same work )

That's an incredible picture if you ask me - good shot....

No cpu's though huh???...with your setup you could be super picky:

Nvidia for whoever has the most optimized app. Same with ATI...

Then pick a CPU project that doesn't yet have a GPU client.

And the above...plus all the others in the world.....They should serve well to show the GPU theory of supercomputing is really no joke....

Now with your 295 - don't you agree those Quadro cards are insanely overpriced? If for Fermi they'll have 2 flavors (consumer 300 and corp Quardo??) - why on Earth would anyone ever buy the professional ones now. Consumer grade cards are on the edge of supercomputers themselves...

Extra memory shmemory - that's why I run excessive amounts of normal RAM....
