My XFX 4890 cooler only has 2 heat pipes?

I thought ATI changed it so 4890's had 2x 6mm pipes and a 8mm one?

The regular XFX 4890 does not use the reference cooler. It's a cut down version of ATI's cooler.

From what I've read, early XFX 4890s with reference designed cards had the standard ATI reference cooler. But at some point they started being cheap bastards and released various cards with crappy cut-down versions of the reference cooler - even if the card itself is a reference design.
If the cooler the OP mentions is anything like the ones I've seen, it has only two heatpipes (like the 4870 cooler), and the GPU heatsink and the baseplate that cools the RAM/VRMs is one solid piece that cannot be separated. Not to mention there is almost no copper in that cooler, and has less surface area in the heatsink fins.

im hearing alot of bad things from XFX recently, I think im gonna be staying away from them in the future. there cooler designs look amazing though :P

This is what Im doing to my XFX card seeing as the cooling isn't great at all and they sound like jet engines!
