Interesting. So cheap, wonder if it will work for eyefinity.

Well yes, but some active adapter have been shown not work for eyefinity. This one is cheap enough to try and if it doesn't work you are only out 20 bucks. If I had a 5800 card, I'd definitely give this one a try.

The $99 belkin/dell one has been confirmed.

Well that one was supposedly confirmed on another forum.
But I have a tendency to trust OCN's user base more.

ATi should get the word out there on what works and what doesn't.

Once budget HD5k cards are released I probably will grab one and try it.

The problem is that they didn't use the new Displayport standard that could convert DVI/HDMI, but I think that's related to the cost of the chips that do it since they are new.

We'll probably see it as an HD6k standard though.

That adaptor will not work. They are mis-selling it. It is not an active adaptor. It is a passive adaptor. It has been shown that passive adaptors work for the 5870 as long as that is the only monitor connected. Passive adaptors will not work to allow the use of three screens if two of them are on DVI/HDMI. It appears to be a limitation of how ATi wired up the TMDS transmitters and the DisplayPort version on the 5800 cards.

Seriously, Ram Electronics need to be strung up for that mis-information.

And what would this "other forum" be? The Widescreen Gaming Forum? Dave Baumann (AMD Product Manager for the 4000/5000 series) has made it clear several times there that active adaptors are required - and proper active adaptors require USB or other external power.

Adaptors need to look like:

Those tiny things with no external power won't.
