Default Crysis Benchmark 4890 vs 5850 vs 5850CF(UPDATE!)

Hello everyone, so i got my 5850 today and stacked it against my 4890. Now i shall share my findings with you.

Test bed is my sig rig.
Both cards ran at 100% stock.
All tests run a 1920x1080, 64 Bit, Dx10
The game today is, you guessed it, Crysis updated to version 1.21. Would have loved to do Stalker: Clear Sky and maybe Far Cry 2, but I don't own them.

1920x1080 High Detail No AA

4890 - Max: 52.89 Min: 26.95 Avg: 43.68

5850 - Max: 66.39 Min: 32.02 Avg: 51.675

Dual 5850 - Max:85.20 Min: 27.46 Avg: 58.68

As you can see, the minimum frame rate did not increase much. But it got into the playable realm once the 5850 was put in. Max FPS yielded the highest increase of ~14FPS, with the Avg right behind it at ~8FPS. Now to add AA.

1920x1080 High Detail 4xAA

4890 - Max: 44.52 Min: 25.44 Avg: 36.77

5850 - Max: 54.14 Min: 20.90 Avg: 44.99

Dual 5850 - Max: 77.93 Min: 28.14 55.775

The 5850 seems to fall behind here on Minimum FPS by ~5. The Max FPS once again increased by about ~10FPS, with the Avg on the 5850 about ~9 higher. Although both card's lost about 6~7 FPS once adding on the AA, no sign of ATI's improved AA algorithm's yet. Now adding the 4xAA really brings up the Dual 5850's Min FPS comapared to without. Lets try turning up the setttings, shall we?

1920x1080 Very High Detail No AA

4890 - Max: 29.51 Min: 14.98 Avg: 25.39

5850 - Max: 36.6 Min: 13.42 Avg: 31.21

Dual 5850 - Max: 54.44 Min: 12.93 Avg: 43.495

Once again the 5850's minimum FPS is lower than the 4890's but only by ~1FPS this time around. The 5850 averaged higher by about ~6-7 in both Max and Avg FPS. The 5850 is just in the realm of playable FPS. The 4890 is just a little under neath that barrier. Now lets add some AA. Once again the Dual 5850's Minimum FPS drops below both other cards. Lets see if adding AA helps again.

1920x1080 Very High Detail 4xAA

4890 - Max: 25.24 Min: 16.42 Avg: 21.795

5850 - Max: 30.64 Min: 13.69 Avg: 27.01

Dual 5850 - Max: 46.54 Min: 19.35 Avg: 38.355

Once again without fail the 4890's minimum FPS is ahead, but pulled up to ~3 this time. But the 5850 pulls ahead with the Max and Avg. It seems as though they lost less FPS when increasing AA while on the VeryHigh Detail setting, when compared to just High Detail. Once again crossfire shines with Min FPS jumping back up. Avg is a bit lower than expected. Hopefully driver updates can fix that.

Personal Thought's: It's quite odd how the 4890's minimum pulls ahead from the 5850. I think that might be a driver issue though, so thats what ill chalk that up too. Overall a somewhat decent upgrade. 5850 Crossfire figures will be up as soon as Sapphire sends me my other one. Thank you for reading, this is my first try at this, please leave constructive criticism if you have any.

EDIT: Though't id put up an OC'd one for the 5850. Don't have one for the 4890, sorry.

Core: 775Mhz(AfterBurner Max)

5850 - Max: 33.61(3 FPS over stock) Min: 16.37(3 FPS over stock) Avg: 29.185(2 FPS over stock)

Dual 5850 - Max: 48.40 Min: 21.91 Avg: 39.275

Good stuff. I imagine when newer drivers come out, we'll see this baby shine like she should.

This is what im hoping as well. Especially with the matter of minimum FPS. Makes no sense to be honest. Let me tell ya though. These things OC like no one's business. Want some benchmark's of it OC'd?

I'd be interested in some if it's not too much trouble. The 5850 will probably be my next card, should offer a pretty large leap in performance from my 8800GT.

It's up there. The VERY last one up there. I could easily go higher if MSI afterburner let me!
