Yea Overclockers, I got myself a new card. Upgraded from the Sapphire Radeon 4670 512MB to the Sapphire Radeon 5770 1GB.
So far the first thing that I noticed when I unboxed is that this card is a dual slot and is enclosed in a box (a first for any graphics card that I have owned) plus it requires external PCI-express power via 6 pin (another first for me, the other card that required external power was EVGA 7600GT 512MB AGP with 4 pin molex). In this package, I received a molex to PCI-express adapter, a crossfire bridge, a DVI to VGA adapter, driver cd, instruction book and the card (obviously). Installing it was a breeze, nothing too fancy required. Just push it into the slot and plug in the power and there we go! After that was done, I had to install the drivers. I went with ati.amd.com to grab the drivers despite having the cd. After installing drivers and doing a reboot I ran a bunch of benchmarks with software that I already have (check out the attached excel file for the results). Although some of the results for the benchies were not as good as I wanted them to be, I am really pleased by the 207.47% increase in FPS for Resident Evil 5 at monitor native resolution of 1650x1080 at high quality. A new card was not really NEEDED for my computer, it was more of a want, but considering that it was DX11 and GDDR5 and 1GB, it was hard to pass up. I currently have the card running Collatz Conjecture and it is just eating up Work units (in under 10 minutes). I would be Folding, but the F@H team decided not to support 5xxx series card in GPU2 but will support them in GPU3. So in the end, although my card cannot run now, at least it wouldn't look like a joke when comparing it to older Nvidia card in terms of Folding ![]() In the end, I am very pleased at this graphics card. For the $185 Canadian + tax that I paid for it, I consider it a very good investment. PROS ---- -Low energy consumption -DirectX 11 card for under $200 -GDDR5 -1GB memory -2xDVI, 1xDisplayPort and 1xHDMI output -Very good fps in UT3 and Resident Evil 5 at native res and high settings -Eats Collatz Conjecture ATi work units CONS ---- -128bit memory interface holds it back from beating the 4870 -Performance not as great as I hoped notes: Considering that this is a DX11 card and a new one, it will be great to see how it withstands the test of time. Will be interesting to see if it can run future games like Crysis 2 without much issue Ratings (out of 5 hearts): Contents of box: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Appearance of card: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Price: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Performance: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() overall: ![]() ![]() ![]() (and half)![]()
