I never called you a fanboy. I just thought the post was funny.

Also, Rewind, why so disbelieving? Hardware failures happen all the time. While it might not be XFX's fault, they very well could have gotten a less than awesome batch from ATI. This still means that XFX cards may be more prone to failure.

It sucks that XFX's ATi cards are not working properly. I guess it wasn't meant to be for ATI.

Check out the cooler. I've had these issues and it always turned out to be a cooler that wasn't making full contact. Now this was with aftermarket coolers but still, I'd check things out first.

I still think it has nothing to do with XFX. These are all reference cards and XFX did nothing but put a sticker. One other reason is that people probably but XFX 5870 more then any other brand hence the higher failure rate.

Lots of tension in this thread. I assume you've tried 1 stick of ram, etc?

Exactly, they're all reference cards ATM...

The only reason XFX would have a higher failure rate is if there were some kind of defect within a specific batch that XFX purchased. Putting their XFX sticker on a reference card changes nothing, it's still reference.

OP, you claimed the card was scorching hot to the touch? Where did you touch it? Maybe the VRM got too hot?

It really could be nothing more than bad luck or maybe it's something else altogether(defective batch). Hopefully your RMA is handled quickly by XFX.

No, but I ran MemTest86+ for the hell of it. No problems with ram, or PSU. System is OCCT stable. I already tried getting the card to work in another computer that's perfectly capable of running a 5870. Same BS occurred.

The backplate.

Has never gotten as hot as it did when it shut the computer down.

Yes, hopefully a bad apple and not a bad batch.

Smile xfx failing

MAN, just yesterday I posted in someone's thread about their XFX 5870 dying (http://www.overclock.net/ati/594656-...ml#post7446640), and I sorta down-played it being "an 'XFX' problem," since the majority of posters were raging at XFX at that point. So I thought "pffft, whatever." But today I feel 100% different...

So I'm in the middle of CoD4 (after about 15 min.), when suddenly my screen loses its signal and goes black, my sound starts stuttering, then comp. inevitably freezes on me. So I try and fire the computer back up and absolutely nothing happens. I then decide to touch the card and it is absolutely scorching hot to the touch. So I take the card out and let it cool down for 10 min., put it back in and turn the computer back on. It actually turns On this time, but there's no video signal, and I notice the fan is oddly stuck spinning at full speed (100%). So I shut down, clear my cmos, fire comp back up, and not only is there still no video signal & fan stuck spinning at 100%, but my mobo is now letting off a loud error beep code for 2 1/2 seconds -- which, not surprisingly, has to do with a video error. I tried the card in the secondary PCI-E slot, but same thing. So, back to onboard video.
I've only had the card for around 3 weeks. I feel like dropping it off a cliff instead of RMA'ing.
i have a xfx i am having the same problum blank screen hit the reset butten
on startup that will give you a screen rma the card at once i bought this from newegg i have it over 30 days so i have to go to xfx for rma put in a support ticket then call them and request a rma the card is no good replace at once
