I finally got tired of waiting and installed the Intel ssd last friday. Give me some time and I'll get this thing cranked up and fully functional.
Sweet rig...there just aren't enough of us down har in they back country

For some reason when I uninstalled my 4870x2 drivers, then booted to safe mode and used driver sweeper I then powered down my computer, uninstalled the 4870x2 and installed just one 5870 as I wanted to do benches with 1 vs 2. My computer for some reason would not recognize my usb mouse and keyboard once it came to the windows 7 login screen. It took me a day to track down a ps/2 mouse and keyboard from the office. They worked, letting me login to windows and install the drivers. After benching with vantage I installed the second card and crossfired them, replugged my usb mouse and keyboard in and everything is working as normal now. Now for the bench results. The screenshot posted is with 2 cards in crossfire. My cpu and gpu are both at stock. Don't ask why I haven't OC my cpu yet, I've been busy and hope to get working on it this weekend.

Results: All results are 3dmark vantage scores at this time.

4870x2 l-l 5870 l-l 5870's CF
12079 l-l 12559 l-l 12514 l-l CPU Score
13283 l-l 14688 l-l 19116 l-l GPU Score
12960 l-l 14091 l-l 16888 l-l Total Score

I was suprised that the single 5870 scored better than the 4870x2 and a decent jump adding the second card. Will get back with more benches after I get some sleep.
Did you reset CMOS or the BIOS in the progress? If so, the issue was probably in "Integrated Peripherals" in the BIOS. There's something called USB Keyboard Functionality (or something like that) which needs to be turned on. I had the same issue for a while then I finally figured it out.

No, that was actually the first thing I checked. They were both enabled (there is one for the mouse too) and still I got the hang up when I tried to boot. I don't claim to know much but I do know I'm holding on to the ps/2 mouse and keyboard in case something like that happens again. I know that I have probably 10 of those usb to ps/2 adapters laying around but for the life of me I can't find a single one when I need to.

Yeah well we all make mistakes in life don't we? LOL j/k, I really love this setup so far. I would love to have an i7 920 but the thing is I'm a bit anal when it comes to getting a deal. I just can't pay newegg $279 for that thing when I know microcenter has it for $80 less. The problem here is the closest one is 6 hours away in Atlanta. So until I can get a new one online for $199, I'm gonna stick with what I got.

For all you guys/gals saying he needs an i7, please stop. The Q9650 is an extremely powerful CPU. That thing can go to 4.0GHz with no trouble and you will without a doubt have no problems concerning a bottleneck. The Q9650 is great, those 2x 5870s make the rig even greater. If you need help with OC'ing that beast send me a few PMs, I'll get ya sorted. Well, still congrats on the new cards! I'm waiting for the 5870X2's
