If you have a good card I would wait. It looks like you do so theres really no rush. At least untill after the new year and you start to see prices drop / what nvidia has to offer and what games will actually support dx11 full throttled not just a few features.
__________________And what the actual results of the change are. Who knows how wicked awesome it will or wont be. Simulations are always glorious, making it work in real life is totally and completely different. Also, drivers are still immature and all the boards are reference so theres really not much to run screaming to the store for at the moment.

There are only two legitimate reasons to get a 5000 series card right now: true hardware limitations, like having a dead card and not wanting to buy old technology (or having a crappy card and wanting to play a new game), or excessive disposable income. A 4890 is a good card for any game you can name, and 5000 series cards will only get cheaper (and we haven't even seen them all yet). I'm stuck on an 8800GTS, and trust me, I really want a new card, but every day I put up with compromising on resolution and texture quality is a day closer to choosing from the full range of next-gen cards. I haven't been unable to play a game yet, and although I can afford a new card, I can only afford to buy a new card once. If I buy a 5870, the 5950 or GT300 might be better, and I'd kick myself for not waiting.
A friend of mine has a 5870, and he loves it, but he can afford to sell it at a discount and buy the next top card. I think you'd regret going to 2 4890s when DX11 becomes mainstream, unless you can afford to sell them off and upgrade. If you can wait until Christmas, it's an ATI fan's buyer's market. If you can wait until probably March or so, it's a graphics card buyer's market. Right now, it's a seller's market, with almost everything sold out at high prices. Why buy into it, if you can wait?

For massive raw power and value the HD5850 is a great card.

Great video card IMO.

you can play dx11 games with the 4800 series, however it won't support it, as in you can't play with dx11 quality with a dx10.1 card

The reason I upgraded to a 5850 from a 4890 was heat, power consumption, and I was getting a higher res monitor. At your res I would stick with the 4890 and let prices drop on the 5800s.
My 4890 screenshots are all old and it was all I could compare too. Crysis Both at stock clocks. ![]() ![]() Stalker stock clocks ![]() ![]() 3DMark 06 5850 940/1200 - i7 @ 4.2 4890 947/1127 - i7 @ 4.2 ![]() ![]() Vantage 5850 950/1200 i7 @ 4.0 Kept crashing so I thought my CPU was unstalbe, but it was my GPU clocks that weren't. 4890 947/1127 i7 @ 4.2 ![]()

Personally, I upgraded to the 5870 (from a GTX 260) because I would see a decent bump in min/avg FPS at 1980x1200 on some of the newer games, especially after bumping up the core speeds. Also the DX11 support played a bit into the equation.

__________________I have Windows 7 and it comes with DX11 already installed. Am I using DX11? No. My cards don't support it: my 4850 is DX10.1 and my 9500GT is DX10. Can I play a DX11 game? Sure I can, but, they won't be able to run in DX11 mode. 10 or 10.1 would be my options because my hardware doesn't support DX11. If you know a way to run DX11 games/apps on DX10/10.1 hardware, in DX11 mode I'd really like to hear it...would save me the trouble of upgrading to the 5750.
