Default HD5xxx Generation Worth it? Facts pls.

Now i am really wondering if the 5 series is worth upgrading to.
I've seen 3dmark scores wich do not exceed in big numbers compaired to the 4 series. Some people say 3dmark does not mean nothing, some say it does. Everyone has an opinion on that, so do i.

I, and a lot of others i think, are interested in numbers and facts wich are not scattered over different forums, reviews and threads.

What i would like to see is benchmarks of 4series and 5seriers. Not only 3dmark benches but especially INGAME benches. So like Farcry 2, Crysis or what ever game a benching tool has.

Please post them and i will try to get a easy oversight of them to compair real performance.

This is btw not a standard benchmark thread but a ATI GFX thread to determine 5x performance over 4x.

BENCHMARKS 5xxx

Honestly, if anything, I'd grab another 4890.

These are from a review I wrote a while ago.

I doubt people are going to post benchmarks here just for you. There are plenty of the these comparisons in this thread.

Do you care about DX11? Personally I find my 5770 that I overclocked to be plenty on most games at the moment, and when I get a second it will do pretty nice I expect. Plus I will be DX11 ready for next year. But if you don't care about DX11 at all then I imagine you would get more power out of a 4xxx series such as a 4890. So I think that is something to really think about, DX11 or DX10.1 ...

Unless you want to spend money don't get it. It's just overhyped, unless you will be playing at a resolution like 2560x1024 and play Crysis often it won't be much of a gain for you. Sure higher framerates, but the 4890 is already fast enough. As for DX11. I expect it to just be another overhyped thing that can be enabled by changing settings. It has already been enabled for Vista just like DX10 level graphics were enabled for XP.

I'd personally wait until the 9.12 drivers when they 'unlock' the rest of the card and see how that stacks up to Fermi, and I have a sneaking suspicion the two might not be that far from each other!

You need DX11 hardware to use DX11...

It goes a bit deeper than just graphics too. Performance is improved all around, that's why the 5xxx series cards have such a low power draw compared to the 4xxx series. DirectCompute in Windows 7 uses/will use DX11 to spread the work load more efficiently for both NVIDIA and ATI cards.

Raw power = 4xxx series.
Better Eficiency with room to grow as drivers mature = 5xxx series.

You have to spend money to get any graphics card.

You'll see higher fps at any resolution.

Such a vague phrase. Depends on the game, resolution, how much AA is applied, etc.

This I just don't understand. The 48xx series doesn't support DX11 whatsoever. Currently, the 5xxx series are the only DX11 cards on the market. It has nothing to do with the whole "XP and DX10 features enabled in crysis." The 48xx series can't use tessellation even though they support it in various forms (DX10.1, OpenGL, DX9 ~IIRC).

Way to use my reply out of contrast.

He doesn't have to spend money for the graphics card he already owns. That's why I said "Unless you want to spend money..."

Thanks for being nice and obvious. Of course there will be a FPS gain, a FPS gain that he probably doesn't need. He could be getting 60fps on a game with his 4890 then get like 100fps with a 5xxx series. That is a gain that he could obviously live without, probably barely even notice.

Such a vague phrase. Depends on the game, resolution, how much AA is applied, etc.

Instead of saying to refer to the above statement I'll just say it again

"unless you will be playing at a resolution like 2560x1024 and play Crysis often it won't be much of a gain for you."

At no point in time did I say that the 4800 series supported DX11. My point was that DX11 level graphics could be enabled by editing configuration files to increase the graphics. Just like with the DX9 to DX10 transition, there wasn't improvement. They just locked out DX10 level graphics from DX9 and called it another version. DX11 itself can be enabled in Vista as I said. With a DX10 card (that he has) as if he was in XP you wouldn't be enabling the new version; you would be enabling the level of graphics which the card is capable of.
Responce to your reply in BOLD.
