Instead of getting the e6500 shoulf I get the e7400?
I was thinking I was getting a better deal from the 6500 since it has VT
AS OF RIGHT NOW, I'd go with an e6500 Pentium Dual-Core with a EP43-UD3L board and a used 9800GT (You can find one for $60 used on this marketplace)

Keep in mind though that the "ideal" setup changes over time, and by the time you get the money together, more than likely you can get better parts for the same cost.

Even a Celeron Dual Core + P45 chipset mobo + the fixings would be an improvement over your current setup. Then you can give away the Celly DC later when someone on OCN sells a used Q9650 or something

I would definitely at least get a little something to hold you over until you can afford a completely new build. Onboard graphics straight blow for gaming.
A HD 4650 (DDR3 version) or HD 4670 would be a nice upgrade and your current PSU should power them both just fine.

yeah that's what I was thinking just to hold me up until I get enough money to build my actual rig. Plus what ever upgrades I do to it now will help my brother when he get it.

Oh, G41 is fine. If you have a PCI-E slot you should be able to just drop-in a video card.

The only question is if the G41 can take all the new CPUs out there and if your computer's BIOS can be upgraded to support them.

Here is a comparison of G41 to P45.

yeah, I know that it can take most core 2 duos. but shouldn't it be compatible with the e3200 since I have a celeron in it now?

Eh. Given that your system is OEM from a manufacturer anyway I'd lean towards getting some legroom by cannibalizing your old stuff for a new DIY mobo/CPU combo. Pull the DDR2 RAM (unless it's cheapo DDR2-667), HD, etc and plop those into the suggested E7200/E6500 + P45-based board setup.

Sell the old system or donate it to Cuba or something.
