sorry to say but the 3450 is more suited for HD playback rather than gaming....it only has 40 stream processors and runs a 64bit memory bus which is why it only uses 128MB......HD3650 GDDR3 512MB on the other hand works pretty good for games a low resolution....like 1024 x 768 and even 1280 x 1024

Honestly, the amount of vram here is a non-issue in terms of performance. The HD3450 with its 64-bit bus can't even utilize 256mb, much less 512mb. You'll see no difference in performance going from 128mb to 512mb. If you want to game at low-medium resolutions, go with an HD4650 or 9600GSO. For higher resolutions like 1680x1050, you'll want at least a 9800GTX/HD4850. Or, you could wait for the lower-end Fermi chips which should be released Q1 2010, if i'm not mistaken.

The memory bus width has nothing to do with how much memory the card can utilize. It only affects memory bandwidth.
What you're experiencing is likely HyperMemory.
