Default *** is going on with 58XX series cards availability

Guys

*** is going on with the availability of these cards. Not only is every vendor out of stock but a week ago NEWEGG had several vendors listed for the 5850 now they are down to 1 (ASUS dis-activated this morning). Also, I see that ASUS is no longer listing 58XX series on their website. Anyone have any idea *** is going on??????

I would venture 2 guesses
1.) Production problems getting high yields
2.) Artificial supply cut in order to keep their prices high as demand will not fall for these until very close to Fermi launch

or they discovered a very big issue in the cards that make them run hot or something, but that dosent happen anymore so its more like them keeping the price sky high, for fermi

they can not produce enough cards for the demand. period.

I bought my new system 2 weeks ago, and had been on newegg every day, several times a day, a week prior to buying it to finally catch a 5870 in stock. In that time, they activated/deactivated 7-8 different cards under the 5870 category. I just so happen to be lucky enough to catch a Gigabyte 5870. I could not have been more than 20 minutes later, it was out of stock again but I had jumped on it. Would have liked a XFX 5870 for the warranty, but beggars can not be chooser's, and I have a 7800GT from gigabyte that I put threw hell and back and could not have been happier.

Do a quick google search, there are some reports about AMD not producing enough of them

Guys

1) Thanks for the info. However, why would ASUS completely stop advertizing this series on their website??? Also, I thought NEWEGG only deactivated items when the product lifecycle has run its course. It seems strange to not leave the item up as activated and simply out of stock. The combination of these things seems a bit "fishy" to me.

2) I wouldn't really care to be honest but my 8800GT took so I need a new card. The 5850 seemed like the best route considering $$, DX11 and performance and I don't really want to purchase this card at a later date after having to buy something now to get me by. Of course it happens at the same time COD5 comes out.....so it SUCKS a bit that is all.

Guess I can stop *****ing now.....Newegg had the 5850 & 5870 up for about 2 minutes...(literally) so I picked up the 5850. Question for you guys.....
I had an 8800GT that failed on me and I can't get any signal to the monitor at all with it. Can I just pop the new 5850 in even with nvidia drivers still installed? Thanks.
